Well usually it's the extreme cases. Mario Cawley against Hasim Rahman, Bruce Seldon against Mike Tyson.

Roberto Duran's quitting against Ray Leonard was real bad though. His cornerman made up the stomach cramps excuse, saying "if everyone knew the real reason he quit, they'd hate him". He wasn't in good shape and was frustrated and losing. If someone's getting paid $8 million and doesn't train hard and then quits midway through the fight because of frustration, fans have a right to feel cheated and criticize.

But most situations, when a fighter tries hard but just can't do it anymore or has nothing left, I don't have a problem.

I don't see why a fighter has to risk injury to somehow prove his mascualinity when the sheer fact that he's getting in the ring makes him more of a man than 99% of the Earth's population.

Some of you guys need to realize the boxing isn't and shouldn't be a life a death struggle. It's a ***ing sport and even if every boxing fan in the world fell over and died there would still be people in gym's learning the sweet science out of sheer love for the sport.

          Grow up people.
Nicely put, I understand the concept of what your saying mainly and I agree with it... they've got balls for stepping in the ring in the first place!

So if anything Oscar had more of a reason to quit than Izzy or cotto.
They went out swinging they did there damnest to win the fight. Oscar just gave up

That is pretty much it, if a fighter gives their all and have nothing left to offer, who am I to criticize that effort.

If a fighter does not give an honest effort though (includes properly training), they deserve whatever heat they get.

I like Oscar, but i was disappointed in the way he went out like that. I mean he didn't even try digging deap, he just accepted it. You could say that beating on the ropes was an act of desperation to get the ref to save him. Rather quitting.

I understand that and don't think I'm putting down Robinson. But whats the diffrence between that and a fighter taking so much punishment in a fight that if he takes any more he could possiably die from it?

To be fair as a former Margarito fan I don't see anything wrong with Cotto quitting when he fought Tony. Had he continued he would of risked serious injury and I'm sorry but I would rather see Cotto live to fight another day than get turned in to a vegtable all in the name of a sport.

In a sense he did "quit". Yes he may have died if he had continued but he still "quit" according to some because boxers are supposed to fight to the death or whatever.

Now obviously in the minds of any sensible fight fan Robinson did not quit nor was he a coward but it's something to think about.
