  • So if Suger Ray Robinson quit then whats the big deal about other fighters quitting?

Seriously why should a fighter risk injury or death for a few beer swilling ******s in the stands?

I don't see why a fighter has to risk injury to somehow prove his mascualinity when the sheer fact that he's getting in the ring makes him more of a man than 99% of the Earth's population.

Some of you guys need to realize the boxing isn't and shouldn't be a life a death struggle. It's a ***ing sport and even if every boxing fan in the world fell over and died there would still be people in gym's learning the sweet science out of sheer love for the sport.

    Grow up people.

It's a double standard. And I don't know Robinson's career too well, but I think he was older at the time.

Don't try to bring down Ray Robinson for Oscar De La Hoya, quitting.

You know if there was the internet back in the day there would be hundred's of threads calling Sugar Ray Robinson a fraud and a coward for quitting against Joey Maxim despite the fact he was fighting for the LHW title when he came in under the MW limit

He's referring to the Joey Maxim fight at 175 lbs. I believe it was for Maxim's LWH title and SRR could not continue due to the sweltering heat in the ring. I think they had to switch out the referee at one point because the referee had collapsed from exhaustion.

I does not bother me, if a fighters gives his all, and ends up quitting. There is quit in everybody imo. I can sit here and say i cant see Marvin Hagler ever quitting, but im sure under the right circumstances, he would. I used to think black and white about fighters taking the decison to quit, but it really isn't like that.

I mean Floyd Mayweather has never quit, but if you were to ask me who has more heart/determination/heart i would say Chavez/Duran. Yet both those fighters have quit, or allegedly quit depending on who you speak to.

In no way am i trying to do that becasue i think Ray Robinson was one of the best all time.

The point that I'm trying to make is that no matter who the boxer is it isn't dishonerable to quit especially if your body is telling you that you need to stop.
