That is where you are wrong. Take a look at the Gary Jacobs fight or Hurtado fight, he brutalized Hurtado on the ropes. He also nearly Knocked Roger Mayweather out in round 1. He also dropped the VERY tough Greg Haugen.

He was not a ****er, but he was not the feather fisted fighter people think either.

See Joe Louis and Alexis Arguello for perfect examples.

Yes personally i would want my fighters to fight like Whitaker, because Whitaker is not strictly an longe range fighter like most of these orthodox classical style fighters you are referring to.
Yo would want them to be like Whitaker, yes. But would you train them to fight like that? Hands held low, leaning in, squatting almost to the canvas, leaning back, sticking your chin out? Pea got away with those things because of who he was and his natural talent. You can't teach natural talent, fubdamentals you can.

How does that work? Whitaker uses the jab consistently. Mayweather does not, and he went to the body more and engaged his opponents more than Mayweather.

          Strange pick.

Whitaker being a better fighter doesn't make him the more classicly skilled fighter. Mayweather in my opinion pissed away the latter part of his career, but watch him at 130, watch hime the second time around against Castillo, Against Gatti or against almost any fighter when he was coming up. His fundamentals are sound.

of course floyd is number one to me for his natural elusiveness in that ring. he is the most natural fighter i've seen ever. from his defense, like his blocking and countering off of the block and his inside fighting and movement and upperbody flexibilty i haven't seen a fighter who was more technically than pretty boy, bar none. he did most everything naturally, it seemed to come so easy to him. ****, his stance and the wya he positions his arms are amazing. i mean, he moved so naturally against gatti and looked very fluent. he knows how to counter off of the block very well and makes it look good.

this kid is boxing at it's purest...i haven't seen better yet...don't know if i ever will.

others--ali, judah, pep, terry norris, srl, holmes, tyson in prime, meldrick taylor, of course ivan calderon, whitaker, hagler, and a several others...
