how come? he seems so natural with it, slip and slide, jab and hook
    you cant call him unorthodox
i think the only time i seen him doin somethin unorthodox was with roy jones where he spun around with a hook

When I think of pure boxers I'm thinking of guys who you can show to a total novice to learn how said boxer works in the ring, you can't show him Toney because what he does can't really be taught, the way he slips, ducks, jabs and hooks is not exactly textbook.

But if you're looking for really well skilled fighters then Toney is definitely up there.

He was one of the best ever. But like Toney, he never showed pure textbook skills. His fighting style while effective, was very unorthodox.

He was a lot more orthadox than Toney imo. He used the jab consistently. Went to the body. I dont see how you can say he was unorthodox. His defence was unorthodox, but not his actual style. He could box from range or in the pocket to.

Im not debating his skills, but in no way can you call him or his style orthodox in the classical sense. Look back a few posts at what Silencers said.....if you were going to teach a kid the fundementals of boxing, is Sweet Pea really the guy you want your protege to emulate?

There is no such thing as an orthodox classical style imo. Some people think Mikkel Kessler is an orthodox classical boxer. I disagree. There is no right or wrong way to fight, but there are a few fundementals that you want your fighter to do like keep your chin down, right hand up at all times, dont square yourself up etc etc.

Yes personally i would want my fighters to fight like Whitaker, because Whitaker is not strictly an longe range fighter like most of these orthodox classical style fighters you are referring to.

JAB5239 you call Mayweather orthodox and Whitaker unorthodox

How does that work? Whitaker uses the jab consistently. Mayweather does not, and he went to the body more and engaged his opponents more than Mayweather.

                    Strange pick.
