All the more reason for the cut not to have happened, 12 rounds with Barrera minus the laceration would have been a much better test for Khan than the 5 rounds he put in. And he would have come through it.

    • With the other UK fighters losing their undercards (badly), I got the feeling the ring doctor wasn't all too keen on calling a NC after the first round of the main event!

MAB told his corner he would keep fighting but when he was being examined, his body language told me that he was waiting for the doctor to call it off.

Beyond the expected hand speed, Kahn showed a more disciplined, measured style. He has definitely improved overall with Freddy. Kinda like how Manny has progressed the last year or so. It's hard to say how the fight would have gone without Marco's nasty cut. Kahn was dominating the fight up to the stoppage but it was too early to tell if he would've won handily over 12 rounds.

What I do know for sure is that the question regarding his chin is still largely unanswered.

If Frank Warren is up to taking risks, why not have Kahn's next fight in America? The exposure wouldn't hurt him. I think the rewards would outweigh the risks.

I don't see any risks at all in him fighting in the States. It would be a good move at this point, although whether he'd earn as much is a moot point, because the UK PPV would require people to watch it at 5am UK time, and he's not a huge name in the US yet. Of course it would boost Khan's long term earning power, but Warren doesn't know the meaning of the phrase "long term". And in any case, Sky might block it because of the reduced PPV sales that would result.

Wherever he fights, his next fight should be against someone just below world class, like David Diaz or Alex Arthur, IMO.

Sadly, Warren is already saying he wants to put him in a world title fight by the end of this year. He won't be anywhere near ready to face the elite of the division by then, so either that means he'll get badly exposed again due to being rushed, or Warren will negotiate him into winning some meaningless paper title. Either way, it's bad for Khan's long term career and bad for boxing. Shame Khan isn't with GBP, he might have been matched more intelligently.

There's gotta be a rematch because there's no way ol' glass jaw Khan should get credit for that win. Yes he was fast and his defense was good but he didn't hurt Barrera at all. He got caught a few times and you could tell that he could feel Barrera's power. If there was no cut Barrera would have knocked him out no doubt about it! This kid is acting like he went 12 with the living legend and beat him in a battle. NO! He fought a handicapped fighter who still managed to rattle him a little even w/ only one eye. He might have well fought him w/ one arm tied behind his back. Pretty much the same effect as only having one eye in a boxing match. Khan is a joke and the next real fight he takes he's gonna get ko'd again. Again exposed for the media built up flop that he is. Barrera on the other hand looks like he's still got some fights in him. Look forward to seeing them. Would love a Barrera Marques 2. Blah blah blah im done. Spoke my peace!
lol i think you watched the wrong fight..do you wear glasses or bind as anyone with more then one brain cell can see marco was saved from a massive ko from khan..not the other way round lmao, i have the fight in front of me on a 48 inch screen and at no point is khan hurt, barrera lands two solid blows in the whole fight and each time receives 4 punch combos in return for his trouble..maybe you need to watch it again and stop wining about cuts dude..cuts are a part of boxing so fighters have to live with it..he chose to carry on so thats life..any how he got battered in every way!!

i swear i seen the doctors mouth ask marco if he wanted to go on.
but that being said you know they wanted to get it into the 4th round.

Marco was only able to see through one eye for most of the fight, which means he couldn't see in 3D, which means he couldn't judge distance. Which means you and I can't possibly be sure that it wouldn't have been an entirely different fight if it hadn't been for the cut.

So while I think Khan would have won by a wide UD if the cut hadn't happened, it's certainly not a foregone conclusion that he'd have won, and I think Khan should offer Barrera a rematch.

Having said that, it's interesting that Barrera hasn't asked for one.

MAB was telling the doctor that he couldn't see. The doctor was like oh well, you can continue. If Marco would have called it quits on his own, he would have lost the fight, I believe an official (doctor, ref, commision) needs to call a hault to the fight. They forced Marco to continue until the 5th so that Khan could get the W. That **** was fucked up.
