I just disagree with the way this win is being portrayed by the media and even the Khan camp as a monumental win ("I proved everyone wrong" etc), when really Khan was only up against a capable/fit to continue opponent for less than two minutes.
Yeah, but the fact is that he has never looked like a good boxer in the ring before. I agree some people have got it way out of proportion, including his camp, but he clearly has improved a great deal under Roach. And Barrera was still dangerous even after being cut, and would still have KO'd the pre-Roach version of Khan.

    • In The News has just come out with the following report:
      Khan could face Prescott again

Amir Khan has revealed he would be interested in having a rematch against the only man to beat him – Colombian Breidis Prescott.

The British lightweight star is on a high after a technical knockout win over ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera on Saturday night. His promoter Frank Warren says Khan could have a world title fight by the end of the year, but Khan claimed Prescott is on a list of potential opponents.

"I'm sure Prescott might be on the shortlist because we made a mistake in that fight which we won't make again," Khan told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Against Prescott we made that little mistake and we had to pay for it."

Khan was brutally knockout by Prescott inside a minute of their fight last September. But it seems unlikely that Warren would let Khan back in the ring with Prescott so soon after their last encounter. The Colombian has a brilliant record of 21 fights undefeated with 18 knockouts to his name.

Warren is instead thought to be lining Khan up for a crack at WBO, WBA and IBO world lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. But Khan's coach Freddie Roach says he wants the Bolton boxer to have to-three more fights before a world title bout.

Warren is such a prick. Prescott is still a serious threat, but nowhere near as much of a threat as Marquez is. And Khan is several fights away from being ready for Marquez, who would destroy him if they fought now. Roach has it about right, saying he needs at least 3 more fights before fighting for the world championship, but will he overrule Warren? I don't see how Warren could make the fight if Roach were to put his foot down and threaten to resign as Khan's trainer.

Warren is even more cynical and even less interested in the long term welfare of his boxers than Don King is, IMO.

          • I see a rematch with Prescott as an opportunity to showcase his improving boxing skills. It's a natural. I think it would sell itself so long as it's held in the UK. It' a risky fight that, should he win, would placate many of his critics.

I feel squaring off with JMM carries far more risk. Kahn would experience a beat down, the type which destroys a fighter's confidence for the long term. He's not ready for that level of competition.

I hope Freddie Roach can get through to Kahn and his training team. Frank Warren is not being smart here.

I fully agree except that I think Khan needs at least one more fight against tough but not quite world class opposition before going in with Prescott - David or Julio Diaz, or Alex Arthur should be his next fight, IMO.
