Nigel Benn, with tens of thousands of Brit fans screaming his name, was able to pull off the unthinkable and defeat Gerald McClellan in a fight that defined a decade. Certain experts such as Michael Katz argued that Jones Jr. would have KO'd Benn in the first round if they had fought due to Benn "not" having a chin. However, he took some heavy handed shots from McClellan and kept firing back in rounds 2-7 and was only knocked out by a Michael Watson jab due to punching himself out in that fight.

I have seen this fight many time and i remember no point when Benn gave McClellan a pasting, Benn was the one who took a pasting in the first and in the 8th round as well, it was a close fight but its clear to most people that McClellan was in trouble after the 3rd, even when McClellan was knocked out it was not from any clean punches he took a knee and then had to give up because off his head injury’s I will never buy into the "Benn was giving him a pasting" argument

incredible fight, awful repercussions obviously for the G-man but nontheless a superb fight

ref was a bit biased though, but those guys still gave it everything in the ring

It was a great fight with horrific consequences, from what I know if a fighter has falled to the apron, he has 20 seconds to get back into the ring so the ref was right in counting to 20, but the referee was horrible that night.

I am glad someone actually believes this was a competitive fight. Nice analysis from an unbiased perspective. Benn won but it wasn't this great victory that most people claim it to be.

No get it right, Benn come back into the fight after the knockdowns, but he was still behind in the fight and McClellan's condition was why he won the fight.
