they only know Whitaker got robbed against him and think that Taylor got robbed against him. they dont know who he beat, just because they dont recongnise the names.
they also fail to recongnise that he was 10 years into his professional career and was a champ at his third weight class before his first controversial fight, let alone loss. and he wasnt just an alphabet champ at those weights, most people had him the best in each division.
not many fighters can say something like that.Comment

No, which is why I still know he has work to do. But in Chavez' biggest fights, there was always controversy. Whitaker, Randall fights, Taylor I, De La Hoya fights.
In his biggest fights, he didn't really come up short, but he left something for the imagination.Comment

I thank my lucky stars my uncle was a boxing buff who used to buy every boxing mag available.they only know Whitaker got robbed against him and think that Taylor got robbed against him. they dont know who he beat, just because they dont recongnise the names.

For some reason, I'll never forget Michael Olajide. He just had one of the strangest last names I ever saw at the time, and thought he had one of the coolest nicknames, "Silk".
Chavez was certified in the 80s, way before Taylor or Pea.Comment

Chaves went 89 before his first official defeat. The man had a solid chin, and inside boxer who worked the body. Personally you could not ask for more, because if you wanted to see a fight, Chaves would give it to you.
I think he deserves more praise. But feel he is neglected with his continues placement of mid 20’s in the all time greatest.
Mexican…no Latin community in general love fighters that can both take as much as you can dish out. And Chaves is one of the few that can do both.Comment

He's a great fighter and one of the best ever from Mexico, but, he will never go down as the best. I think that still should go to Chavez. His resume, despite being ****ted on from so many people that don't realise just how many great champions he beat is truly unequaled by nearly any fighter, let alone just other Mexican fighters.
Even if he had gotten the breaks he deserved from the start of his career it would still be very debatable. Unfortunately he's had too many BS decisions against him and too many bad management choices. Unlike his peers, in Morales and Barrera, he struggled to get name opponents early in his career and was highly avoided for a long time at FW.
Steward to this day still says that they deliberately avoided Marquez when Hamed was looking for the bigger opponents to fight. Anyway, he has certainly made up for all that lost time though and even with all the bad decisions he still has a very impressive resume right now. Unfortunately, time is quickly running out for him and may very well catch up with him sooner, rather than later. I just hope it's not this fight in which it catches up to him. I would truly love to see him beat Diaz and Campbell and then maybe have one more big name fight. That would top an amazing, incredible career.
While we're on Marquez, for those that may not have seen it, I recently pulled out the Marquez/Jandaeng fight again. This is easily one of his great underrated fights, and just a fantastically underrated fight in general. Jandaeng is quite an overlooked fighter, and only had one loss to Joan Guzman going into their fight by UD. It was a fight for the WBO FW title and man, was it a great fight. Jandaeng found a home for the straight left throughout the fight but Marquez' combination punching proved highly effective and he put Jandaeng down for the first time in his career with a stunning left uppercut inside which very nearly had him out for the count in the second round. He got up at nine just as the bell rang. What followed was a brutal war from both guys giving and taking some huge shots on the inside while Marquez continued throwing some picture perfect, unusual combinations. Some of the combo's thrown by Marquez in this fight are easily some of the best I've ever seen from any fighter ever. It eventually ended with one of the best combo's by Marquez, a right hook to the body/right uppercut, then a left hook to the body/left uppercut which prompted the referee to call a halt to proceedings.
Anyone that hasn't seen the fight must do so. Brilliant fight from both guys.Comment
