Look how he dealt with Paul Maliganggi who was supposed to be a very worth opponent and Hatton made him look average. You have to be closer to the elites of this world if you can do that. It wasnt a one off because he shocked the world with Kostya as well. Showing it wasnt a one off. He has had a few dodgy performances but that is either because he was ill, or not 100%.

Hatton could beat a prime elite fighter under the right circumstances IE if he is naturally bigger than them and can impose his size on them( Pac v Hatton)and he is also capable of beating past prime elite like Tszyu, but he would not beat an elite fighter at the same wieght in his prime. Then again there isn't really a fighter like that at LWW at the minute, well a proven one anyway.

Malignaggi was being built up in the UK to sell the fight. Knowledgeable fans already knew Malignaggi was not even the 2nd best in the division.

I say race shouldn't make any difference. His record speaks for itself.

        Of course he’s elite.

Not only is he elite, but he’s also absolute box office.

        The man is the number one draw in world boxing today. Now of course, some of you will argue that point, but the simple fact of the matter is this;

        I am right.

            Gatti was Boxingoffice/PPV

Popularity doesn't make you elite though.

He's a top 15 pound for pound fighter and the #1 guy at 140. Sounds elite to me.

That said, there more than a handful of guys from 135-147 who I think could or would beat him.

              Juan Diaz
              Juan Manuel Marquez
              Nate Campbell
              Tim Bradley
              Manny Pac
              Shane Mosley
              Miguel Cotto
              Antonio Margarito
              Luis Collazo
              Andre Berto
              Josh Clottey

would ALL have an excellent chance to beat Ricky. Hell, I'd pick most of them to do it.

So when you consider that, the question gets more interesting.

I really don't know. He's got some good wins.

When you get to the final spots on a top 12 list, it gets tougher. Kessler, Abraham, Glen Johnson, Vic Darchinyan, Nonito Donaire, Fernando Montiel all start being mentioned, and I don't think he's really better than any of those guys.

Hatton is as Elite of a fighter as anyone boxing today.
Nobody who holds onto a weight classes lineage is considered B class. No-way, No-how. Period.
Somebody may have said Roberto Duran was one-dimentional and Mike Tyson was the same way. Does anyone feel like they are NOT Elite? I didn't think so.

Hatton does what he does very well and should be respected for it. Jww lineage going on 4 years is no easy task and Ricky deserves more credit than he is given. So what, he lost to the #1P4P fighter this decade. Nobody writes off JMM because he got beat by Pacman 2 times. He's #2 P4P for crying out loud.
In short, Hatton is definitely Elite.
