Is Hatton elite or a B class fighter

I think lettering fighters has never been a smart way to class a fighter, it is too vague and there are too many fighters to compare, you can drive yourself crazy classing fighters like that.

I would say hatton is a funny one, id say he is probably better than your average alphabet champion, but isn't quite a real pound 4 pound elite. Against the very best fighters id say more often than not he'd lose, but is capable of pulling out a win in some cases, but is also capable of losing to a good but not great world champion. So id put him between those levels

The only boxers who I would say are currently elite are -

Pacquaio, Calzaghe, Hopkins, Mayweather

Pacquaio is overall, the best boxer out there. I would even put him above Mayweather if he returned.

Calzaghe does not have the strongest resume, but his class is undeniable.

Hopkins was elite long before he beat Pavlik.

Mayweather is the best boxing technician, but his resume could be better.

Behind the elites are the A+ fighters

Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Marquez

Then the A- fighters

Hatton, Dawson, Pavlik, Taylor

Somewhere in the middle. Calling someone B-class is a bit of an insult in my opinion, Hatton is definitely a top fighter but not what I would call elite.

In my opinion we saw the difference between an elite level boxer and the level where Hatton is at when he fought Floyd Mayweather.

Hatton is probably only a bit below the Pacs, PBFs, and JCs of this world. But rather than being a A+ he is an A. But having said that, he can beat the elites of this world. SO that makes him elite doesnt it? YOu only have to listen to how his trainers describe him to understand that.
Look how he dealt with Paul Maliganggi who was supposed to be a very worth opponent and Hatton made him look average. You have to be closer to the elites of this world if you can do that. It wasnt a one off because he shocked the world with Kostya as well. Showing it wasnt a one off. He has had a few dodgy performances but that is either because he was ill, or not 100%.

Hatton is world class, but not really elite. I'd say he's more of an A- than a B.
