Hatton has always been the highest regarded of a weak weight division (140 pounds), largely due to his victory over a past his prime Kostya Tszyu, who retired on his stool and never fought again.

His attempts to move up in weight have been less than successful and other than the Malignaggi fight, against an opponent who posed no threat to him, he has failed to look good in any of his subsequent fights.

I don't put much stock into the Castillo fight because few will argue that he looked good in his previous fight with Ngoudjo. More would argue that he had lost, in fact.
This post is spot on. Hatton is pretty much a B fighter really.

    • only fighter i give hatton credit for was Kostya and even thats debatable. hatton was dirty in that fight and i never respected him after that performance. i had Kostya up on the scorecards and Kostya had a lot of things against him in that fight like age, time of the fight and training. i just wish Johnny Lewis let him finish the fight and hatton wouldn't be where he is now.

to answer the question of the thread, at best he is a B+ fighter. i dont even see hatton making the hall of fame.

imagine hatton didnt come from the UK, therefore the following he has. he would just be another slugger and probably wouldnt have received the opportunities and recognition he has received in his career.

      • The only thing "elite" about Ricky is his ability to put asses in seats. That's it.

He's a club fighter with the record of a club fighter, he fouled his way to a victory against Tszyu, and beat a 73 year old war torn Castillo who was fighting Hatton for pennies, that's it.

          • What makes Calzaghe an elite fighter, but not Hatton?

I ain't being funny, but both fighters styles aren't easy on the eye and both have similar resumes? IMO Hatton has fought better opposition.

I don't think either of em are elite fighters, am just saying.
