you can't have resume as ur basis for greatness
otherwise with that logic, roy is the greater fighter
    because he beat hopkins....

Hopkins has lost RAZOR thin decisions to Taylor and Calzaghe. They were razor thin, faster fighters do perform better against Hopkins than one dimensional fighters but the fact that he makes it very close everytime shows they aren't exactly dominating him.

Tarver isn't slow, Wright has a great boxing brain and defense, Joppy is a fairly well rounded fighter and Hopkins is the only guy to stop Johnson who has a great chin

        but he isn't a LEGEND

he has shown that he is not that COMPLETE of a fighter
he can't even be competitive with fast fighters with great reflexes

        roy jones jr
        joe calzaghe
        jermain taylor
chad dawson (whom he won't fight for reasons mentioned in the intial post)

          I'll ask again:

Roy is only slightly better in terms of ATG

          How is Hopkins overrated?

bernard was a great fighter, no legend
at the end of the day
what did bhop do that was monumental and
            something we will always remember...
im sorry but his middleweight defense record
is overrated, his opposition wasn't that great
not his fault, but o well

He isn't over rated, he is a great fighter... especially at the age of 43, he proved that against Pavlik. He is a true champion and has achieved a lot in boxing and I give him all the credit he deserves.

If he isn't a legend, then why is he going to be in the 'Hall of Fame' and I think he is in the 'Top 50 Greatest of All Time'. Anyway, my opinion is he is a great fighter with great skills... he has come from the very bottom being in prison to the very top, and is probably true inspiration to a lot of people, give the guy some credit come on.

Resume IS the basis for greatness, everything else is just trimmings.

One fight is not a resume.

If Hopkins is overrated, and Jones beat a relatively green version, I guess Jones is REALLY overrated.
