So far all I have seen is the thread starter trying to play devils advocate just for the sake of argument. Let's look at some big names for each fighter (and obviously these are fighters I feel are noteworthy nothing is in stone just my opinion). For RJJ you have Calzaghe(L), Old Felix Trinidad(W), Tarver(2L)(1W), James Toney(W), and of course B-Hop(W). now lets get to B-Hop, Pavlik(W),Winky(W),Tarver(W), Oscar(W), much younger Trinidad(W), Roy(L). Now please tell me besides these names who was on Roy's list that was so much better then the opponents B-Hop faced during his reign at the top. I like Roy so if you think I am biased I'm not, just trying to get a guy his respect I feel he deserves.Comment

Also to Judge Hopkins from the Jones fight is unfair, because Hopkins changed his style as a fighter after the Mercado fights.Last edited by Dynamite Kid; 01-14-2009, 05:11 PM.Comment

In response to thread starter
You said you only deal in Ws and Ls, not taking in to account whether a fighter was in their prime or any other circumstances.
So going on your logic:
you said Roy adjusted to southpaws and that makes him a legend but bernard didn't adjust to speed/reflex fighters so therefore he is only great.
Well if I remember correctly Roy got knocked and beaten by Tarver ( A southpaw) and as you only count wins and losses, how is it that you claim roy adapted to Southpaws.
Also a you say a loss is a loss in repsonse to the Calzaghe and Taylor fights, then do yu count Roy Jones losing to Montell Griffin
Thanks
roy beat tarver in the 1st fight.....clearly
and roy had a DQ loss against griffin who was already done....
come on people, lets not get crazy....
besides im not judging off of ONE fight or TWO....
roy beat both of those guys u mentioned....
bernard NEVER beat his greatest stylistical nightmares
and im not saying benard isn't great he just isn't
of legendary material
statistical greatness does not equal LEGENDARYComment

Tarver presented Roy a lot of problems in the first fight especially the first 4 rounds but he did't stick to that plan. Roy however pulled it out the bag and showed his heart to win ( All credit to Roy, it was one of his great performances) But in the rematches Tarver executed this game plan, kept roy against the ropes and came away with a knockout in one fight and a clear decision in the other. I would say that Tarver adapted to Roy and Roy failed to adapt Tarver in the second and third fights......Comment
