African Americans in general are not very patriotic and do take issue with there own country. With that said they do like thier fighters but its not enough. The only way that a Black fighter can be a draw is by appealing to whites as well. Like SRL. He had cross over appeal after the Olympics and it made him huge. If you noticed early on they tried the same type of appoach with Jermain Taylor. HBO thought he would be there young Golden boy. This time it didn't work even though he had the likeable persona and seemed to be marketable. He was just missing that xfactor or charisma to make people care. The easiest way for an African American to be a draw is to be a villian. Blacks from other countries will have their people behind them. Guys like Sam Peter and Ike Quartey are/were huge in Africa. I also have a feeling you may soon see many Haitians backing Andre Berto.

Maybe fighters like Clotty and Peter have immense suport in Africa because they lack champions in boxing?

In boxing if your Black and ain't Villain or make remarks like "Ain't no White boy is gonna beat me" nobody cares about your black ass.
