Boxing is sustained action over many rounds. Frequently ending via decision. MMA is clearly the dunk contest. In boxing a large percentage of participants actually enter the fight with the strategy of not engaging heavily and out pointing. Malinaggi, Spinks have never dreamed of a slam dunk.. They can't even spell it.

mma is not more complex than boxing.

boxing has specialized skillsets and is more complex.

mma is all about generalized skillsets and an mma fighter can get along w/ only knowing only a few skills from boxing, brazilian jujitsu, and muay thai.

Most MMA fighters are experts in at least one form and know some skills of the other forms of fighting. Don't bash the guys, saying they have no skills when many of them were All-American wrestlers or blackbelts in various martial arts.

You make a good point Drew.

I didn't compare boxing to a slam dunk in regards to the sometimes quick endings of MMA fights, I made the comparison in regards to the one dimensional aspect of boxing.

Regardless of all of the tactical and strategic planning involved, boxing's premise and limitations remain very simple: Using only your hands, strike your opponent above the waist.

On another note, MMA as well can be sustained action. In fact, the KO ratio in MMA is even lower than the KO ratio in boxing, which is surprising at first, but not as surprising when you take into account a tapout or submission victory.

I train with fighters who are both professional boxers as well as professional MMA fighters.

All of them will tell you that MMA training, with all of its different facets, is much more complex than boxing.

I mean, its common sense. MMA encorporates a multitude of different styles of fighting, boxing is only one, and its limited to the use of hands only.

How could you not see this simple fact ?

Heres the only analogy you need to have.

A duck waddles over to a horse, and says 'You know, it sure is great that I can walk on land. Don't you enjoy it horse?

The horse said, 'Yeah, it sure is.'

Then the duck decided to mock the horse for only being able to do one thing. Saying, 'Sadly, you can't swim like I can. Or, you know, fly like I can.'

He laughed, the the horse did, too. Then said, 'You CAN do all those things. However, you can't swim as gracefully as the dolphin, or fly as beautifully as the eagle. Also, you definitely can't run as powerfully as I can. You can do all those things pretty good. We do them all seperately, but great.'

              Boxing > MMA.

heres a better analogy. an MMA fighter went up to a boxer and said "you are such a great puncher. I am so impressed. I would be honored if you could spar with me in a street fight." the boxer not wanting to risk injury replied " no sir, I will have to respectfully decline your offer".

                MMA = Boxing.

                  Here's a better analogy.

An MMA fighter went up to a boxer, then went down because of the boxer.

                  MMA Guy = Dead.

heres a better analogy: the hulk says "hey superman, I am going to kick yo ass mutha ***a" superman replies "too bad mate, you only have super strength. I have super strength plus I could freeze you, burn you with my lazer, fly you to jupiter, and I could tie you up with my super speed before you could say 'pass me the kryptonite'".
