They would. I'm trying to get a rise out of you sucker.

I've been disagreeing with him this morning and he's sticking by this analogy. So let me know, is this a valid analogy of the two sports?
It is a foul and flawed analogy. Do not be fooled by it.

Those mma fools are trying to make boxing a subset of MMA... while it may seem like it, it is not.

      here's a better analogy:

MMA is like taking physics 101, while Boxing is like having a PHD in physics.

Oh yeah have you checked the poll results, I'm having trouble reading them. Can you tell me what everyone thinks?

If boxing is 100% punching (hit and not be hit), and MMA is maybe 20% punching, then the sports are VERY different. The main rules are VERY different.

Its like the difference between horse racing and show jumping, the disciplines are very different so the sports dont warrent comparison.

To say boxing is just like slam dunking just ****** because slam dunking is a simple and very small part of basketball. The skills on display at the highest level of boxing are so diverse and take so much focus, MMA doesnt put a fraction of time into the art of punching compared to boxing. They need to practise so much more fighting techniques they never get close to being as good as the best boxers.

Boxing is like cricket: it's got a deep history, you can genuinely compair athlete's within the sport because there is a definate skillset that is required and just being a good athlete will never be enough. Often the best game go the distance and it takes a mature mind to understand that good thing are not always over in a **** and a flash.

MMA is like baseball: It's simple but has intricacies that make it popular for masses who don't want to put effort into learning the sport and like a quick "lite" version of an older game. it's chock full of endorsments and advertising that often overshadow the sport itself.

Yes, because people on a boxing website aren't biased towards boxing at all.

Like I care about your worthless poll.

I agree that its not a perfect analogy, but the gist of it is that boxing is one dimension of a fight, whereas MMA encompases every element of a hand to hand fight.

^ If you can't agree with that simple statement, I don't know what to tell you.

It is, in fact, a horrible analogy. I'm not even sure what it implies... what I assume it to mean is: Basketball includes dunking and other aspects, the MMA includes punching and other aspects and the Slam Dunk Contest is mainly dunking and Boxing is mainly punching.

However, that's like saying Speed Golf is like the MMA and real golf is like Boxing... which, of course, is a terrible analogy.

Boxing would be the NBA while MMA is the NFL.

You score one way in the NBA, by putting the ball in the hoop by using various forms of shooting which is akin to scoring in boxing, by only using your arms to throw punches. In the NFL, you can pass, run or kick the ball in for points, same as MMA fights ending in submission by arm, leg or neck, or just a straight out KO.
