floyd's run at 130 and 135 is similar to roy's run at 160 and 168.
however floyd has no run at any weight class similar to roy's at 175.
the only fight that roy could have taken that should have happened that didn't was michalczewski. the blame for that goes to both roy and dariusz not just roy.Comment

Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather both Stand Out as this era Greatest Fighters...
But The One thing I never understood is How people hold these two fighters to different standards.
Nobody ever held it against Roy that he didnt fight the best Heavyweights although he call himself the best Heavyweight in the world when he was the "Pound for Pound" best in the world. In addition he said would even beat Lenox Lewis,Wlad Klitschko, and Mike Tyson.??????
And yet people still think he is an all time great even though he didnt clean out the heavyweight division and fight the best heavyweights although he called himself the "best heavyweight in the world" and had the belt????
But when it comes to Mayweather, all you hear is if he doesnt fight the best welterweights in the world he is not a all time great...because he called himself the best "Welterweight" in the world when he was P4P best in the world.
Not looking at the fact Roy did the same thing..
The welterweight division was Mayweathers 4th division
The Heavyweight Division was Roy's 3rd/4th Division
(3rd division he held a belt in)
So my question is why do some of you guys hold Mayweather to a different standard that you are not holding to Roy...
Roy went back down to the Light Heavyweight division to fight tarver, johnson, and calzaghe and never returned to the heavyweight Division to prove he was the best although he said he was the best and had a belt.
How would you guys feel and would you be mad if Floyd came back and went back down to the Jr. Welter weight divsion and fought JMM, Hatton, and Pacquaio?
And not proved he is the best welterweight in the world,
although he had the lineal title. which technically proved he was the best in the division.
I guess its because RJJ was so dominant and never really had tough fights. In his prime no one thought he was beatable.
Floyd, on account of his brittle hands, had a close fight against castillo and ever since its been thought that floyd is beatable when matched up against castillo-like opponents, hence the myth that money marg will beat floyd.Comment

Well Im not Roy, his manager, his trainer, his coach, his promoter, or the network that airs his fights... I didnt look at the contracts, talk to the other fighters, or Roy himself... so its a little hard for me, or anyone else for that matter, to explain to you... exactly why he didnt fight all those guys...
But one can hardly be mad at Roy for coming from 154 lbs, at 5' 11" and NOT fighting Lennox Lewis? I mean, really......?
on the other hand, we have Cotto, practically the same size as Floyd... and wheres Floyd?
I do know, that Roy wanted to make a super fight with either Holyfield or Tyson... two guys that were MORE his size than Lewis... when they didnt happen... he went back down and fought the BEST LHW there was in tarver...
What did Floyd do?
And until you show me where he states hes the best HW in the world, I dont believe he said it...

yeah.... roy came back down from HEAVYWEIGHT to LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT.. and fought the best LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT....
Floyd came from 154, to 147... didnt fight the best 147.. but the best 140lber.. and made him move up, where ricky is horrible...
You dont see a difference here? Not at all?
really........
And Calling Ricky Hatton horrible is calling the entire 140 division horrible.
So lets not get it twisted. When Floyd Fought Ricky Hatton. Ricky Hatton was undefeated in his prime and ranked 5 on the p4p list.
Thats not Horrible.
This thread is not ripping Jones. It is ripping Hypocrisy.Comment

Reed you know for a fact ricky didnt want to fight at 140 because he didnt want to put his belts on the line against Floyd...Because he wanted to have his belts as a fall back in case he lost which he did.
And Calling Ricky Hatton horrible is calling the entire 140 division horrible.

i said, and made ricky MOVE UP - to 147lbs... WHERE ricky is horrible....
Roy didnt make tarver move to Heavyweight to fight him.
he fought the best LHW at LHW...
Floyd fought the best JR WW, at WW....Comment

An average fighter PLUS GREAT athletic ability EQUAL RJJ.
RJJ MINUS athletic ability = RJJ vs Johnson, Tarver, Calzaghe
A GREAT fighter MINUS his athletic ability EQUAL Still good fighter B-Hop.

uh no it isn't floyd had a masterful run at 130-135 ranking up 11 title defenses and 13-0 record in championship fights. roy didn't do much defending at 160-168. roy at 175 was like floyd at 130.
oh and roy and floyd are both top ten tg horus is just pointing out the hypocriscy..I wouldn't of used roy though he is a legitimate legend just like floydComment

What did Jones do at 160 thats compares to what floyd did at 130.
Floyd is rightly consider as in the top 2 best 130 pounders ever if not the best.
Roy is not consider the best 160 pounder not even in the top 10.
Roy is considered the best Light heavyweight ever.
Roy Jones
Light Heavyweight (172 lb+)
From 1996 to 2003
Roy fought at LHW
Roy turn pro in 1993...
So what does that tell you????
It means that Roy was a Natural Light Heavyweight
Floyd Mayweather
From 1996 - 2002
Floyd fought at Super Feather Weight
Floyd turn pro in 1996
what what does that tell you?
