ROY JONES & MAYWEATHER = Same Career Moves -( DIFFERENT Treatment!!!)

Roy Jones and Floyd Mayweather both Stand Out as this era Greatest Fighters...

But The One thing I never understood is How people hold these two fighters to different standards.

Nobody ever held it against Roy that he didnt fight the best Heavyweights although he call himself the best Heavyweight in the world when he was the "Pound for Pound" best in the world. In addition he said would even beat Lenox Lewis,Wlad Klitschko, and Mike Tyson.??????

And yet people still think he is an all time great even though he didnt clean out the heavyweight division and fight the best heavyweights although he called himself the "best heavyweight in the world" and had the belt????

But when it comes to Mayweather, all you hear is if he doesnt fight the best welterweights in the world he is not a all time great...because he called himself the best "Welterweight" in the world when he was P4P best in the world.

Not looking at the fact Roy did the same thing..

The welterweight division was Mayweathers 4th division
The Heavyweight Division was Roy's 3rd/4th Division
(3rd division he held a belt in)

So my question is why do some of you guys hold Mayweather to a different standard that you are not holding to Roy...

Roy went back down to the Light Heavyweight division to fight tarver, johnson, and calzaghe and never returned to the heavyweight Division to prove he was the best although he said he was the best and had a belt.

    QUESTION:

How would you guys feel and would you be mad if Floyd came back and went back down to the Jr. Welter weight divsion OR Lightweight and fought JMM, Hatton, and Pacquaio?

And not proved he is the best welterweight in the world,
although he had the lineal title. which technically proved he was the best in the division.

Roy was entertaining to watch, something Mayweather really isn't.
Roy has a likable personality, Mayweather doesn't.
Roy fought the best, Mayweather (outside of lightweight) didn't.

You can't compare Roy and Mayweather.. at all.
This thread was a weak excuse of an attempt.

One reason he may not be as famous is because of the lower weight he started at, there isnt any American fighter recently who started that low who is really famous. Casual fans arnt familiar with the little guys much.

            Oh you didn't?

            You idiot!

Mayweather grew into his WW body, Roy fighting at LHW was the equivelent of Floyd fighting at Welterweight. Roy always fought guys 10-15 lbs heavier than him at Light Heavyweight as it is.

Roy going to Heavy is the same as Floyd going to Middleweight.

              • How many Prime Undefeated highly ranked fighters did Roy beat to be consider top 20 All time before John Ruiz?????
              • How Many Lineal Championships did he have to be consider top 20 All time before John Ruiz?????
              • Who did Roy beat besides toney and Hopkins to be consider top 20 All time before John Ruiz?????
              • From 1995 - 2002 What top 10 P4P fighter did roy beat to be consider top 20 All time before John Ruiz?????

The Reason Roy is so Highly reguarded is because he rose from middleweight to heavyweight over the course of 9 years.

More than a few eyebrow were raised over that, especially due to the fact that Jones had allegedly tested positive for steroids before.

              But to floyd though..

Ok would you be mad if Floyd came back and went back down to 135 or 140.

The point being people dont give Roy **** for going back down to Light
heavyweight even though he didnt clean out the Hw when he said he was the best. But yet, They act like this is the first time in history a fighters is doing what floyd has done. which is not clean out his 4th or 5th weight division.

Mayweather grew into his WW body, Roy fighting at LHW was the equivalent of Floyd fighting at Welterweight. Roy always fought guys 10-15 lbs heavier than him at Light Heavyweight as it is.

Roy fighting at Light heavyweight is not equivalent to floyd fighting at welterweight because WW is floyd's 4th division and LHW is Roy's 3rd...

Doesn't matter really does it? Your body grows, the difference between weight classes in the lower weights is smaller anyway (e.g Lightweight to LW = 5 lbs).
