You need CARBS if you are an athlete.

He seemed to be on some sort of Ketogenic diet.

It had to have been a Cyclic Ketogenic Diet though, as I don't see how he could have done any type of high intensity training without a carb in his system.

This makes sense, because he was able to cut the weight so easily, and quickly. Also, it would explain why he appeared very slender.

What doesn't make sense though, is why he didn't put on more weight between the weigh in and the fight.

In a ketogenic diet, your body is using fat for fuel, rather than carbs. The way this is accomplished is basically by limiting carb intake to >30g a day...and upping fat intake, with moderate protein intake.

LOL @ Schaefer though. The guy is a Swiss Banker, he really should stick to what he's good at.

That's what happens when your weight drained and don't put on any weight and i seen that in Oscar. Up until the night of the fight i thought Oscar would win, when he came in at 145 i thought it was unnecessary and maybe he was trying to get a mental edge over Manny but on the night of the fight when i heard he weighed in at 147 and i seen him look so skinny i said to everyone in the room and Oscar is going to lose. Other than retirement Oscar's only option is for a rematch to show every1 that wasn't the real DLH, hire Floyd sr, weigh in at 147, come in the ring at 160 and give Manny something to worry about instead of a session on a punch bag.
Coming down to welterweight actually enhances my speed. ~ Oscar

Oscar has all the answers for Manny Pacquiao, whatever he tries. ~ Angelo Dundee

He's at the point now where he sees things before they happen. ~ Member of De La Hoya's team, 24/7 series

I felt the same way that Oscar feels now. It's that, people are counting him out, people thinking that he can't pull the trigger. People thinking that he ain't gonna be able to fight three minutes for 12 rounds. Well, he can dictate the fight the way he want it to be. ~ Bernard Hopkins

The timing is perfect, him coming in a couple of weeks before the fight. When Hopkins is telling you "well, just relax and fight your fight, take his heart right from the start" it pumps you up. It pumps you up and makes you more confident. ~ Oscar

Oscar has his chance, come December 6, to prove himself. Yes, Pacquiao is fighting Oscar, but Oscar is fighting to keep that legacy alive and respected. We (we?) now are fighting for pride and dignity. Principle. ~ Bernard Hopkins

This type of fight at this stage of my career, I'm so hungry for the knockout, that's why I'm working as hard as I am. My style and his style? Sooner or later we're gonna clash! Knockout. There will be a knockout! ~ Oscar

I feel in tremendous shape. I mean, I can spar 12 rounds here with no problem. I can run 10 miles with ease. ~ Oscar

I haven't felt this good in a long, long time. ~ Oscar

Margarito loses to Paul Williams, Margaritos fault. Cotto loses to Margarito, Cottos fault, Ponce De Leon Loses to Juan Manuel Lopez, De Leons Fault. De La Hoya Loses to Pacquiao, Garcias Fault!PRICELESS! These people are a joke...Hoya always fires someone after a loss. He and his nuthuggers are in denial.

Good to hear Guerrero's wife is doing better.
It seems Oscar did a Roy Jones. I see the same kind of effects on Oscar than i saw in Roy after Ruiz when he lost all that weight. There's a reason older fighters go up in weight and not down. Your guts, they never stop growing and by the time you are in yor 30's there's no way you're gonna weigh the same you weighed in your 20's nor you can retain as much water. Specially cases apply for Holyfield and Hopkins, two real great fighters of the past decade who can still hold their own in the new century.

Since you're complaining and making excuses. Would it have been fair if Pacquiao agreed to fight Oscar at 154 in order to make this fight?? You're ridiculous.
Pacquiao went up 3 weightclasses (only had 1 fight at LW) and Oscar went down just one. That itself was ridiculously unfair..........and of course IT ISN'T anymore coz Pac won convincingly.

Why complain when you haven't given him that?

And who's fault is it that he "supposedly" drained himself? You wanted the fight at 154?? That's 4 weightclasses Pac needed to jump...........Pac would still beat his ass tho.

You wish Oscar was 50 years old *****.

Richard Schaefer, CEO of Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, had just finished hosting a news conference to announce the signing of two-time featherweight champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero at the Golden Boy offices.

As Guerrero and a few members of the Spanish-language media continued to talk in the conference room, Schaefer walked with this reporter to his office. After talking briefly about the proposed May 2 fight between Golden Boy's Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao, the subject turned to De La Hoya.

Why, Schaefer was asked, did De La Hoya look like he was 45 instead of 35 on Dec. 6 when he was stopped after eight rounds by Pacquiao, who was thought by many to be too small to have a strong chance of winning? "I know Oscar is probably not going to like what I'm going to say, but I'm going to say it anyway," Schaefer said. "First of all, Oscar will not make any excuses. And I don't want to make any excuses. The fact is Pacquiao turned in an amazing performance. He had the right strategy and he fought a very disciplined fight. He was not as wide and as wild as he usually is. You can't take away anything. But it was shocking to me to see how Oscar was." [details]

Are we to believe that Oscar De La Hoya got involved in some crackpot diet to get his weight down then screwed up his health in the process? I would have thought he is too smart to do something that ******. The fact remains, however, that his performance against Pacquiao was unbelievably bad. This is as good an explanation as any. Maybe he should sue that clown who talked him into it?
