Fair enough dude. I agree it was a terrible fight, certainly one of my least favourites of Oscar's. I dunno, I have only watched it a few times myself and scored it twice. I scored it for Oscar both times though. I agree though, terrible fight. One of the biggest letdowns in the history of the sport.
Is Oscar De La Hoya an all-time great?

I wonder if this poll would look the same if Oscar would of chosen to fight Margarito instead of Pac. Pretty sure Oscar would have more "yes" votes.Comment

If DLH fought and beat Margs I may have said yes to ATG because he finally beat the division's best, but I can't say he's in that category. HoF? yes, ATG? no. But then again with the gates of the hall open to guys like Johansson and Barry how long until Gatti gets voted in?Comment

That's what I think cost him the fight, instead of clowning around trying to look too flashy, he should of kept being more active. I scored it 7-5 for DLH.Comment

an immediate rematch and a resounding victory over tito would have boosted DLH's claim to ATG IMOComment

Danc, you're one of the posters I respect so I'll indulge this - truthfully, I hate the Oscar-Tito debate.
I have watched that fight about TWICE my whole life (just too horrible a fight) and not only was I unimpressed by what Oscar did the last quarter of the fight, I didn't think he was too great the first half. I don't know how people say he swept the first x rounds...we can start with round two, which he lost. And a couple others. He was ahead but not so much that he could run. And he lost every round in the latter quarter of the fight.
You ask me how I scored it. I didn't. Oscar robbed us of a true ending. He was well ahead...why didn't he continue to "box?" Because he was tired...and knew that if he continued, he would've been stopped. And that much was obvious.
No one won. They both lost.

Round 8: Trinidad
Round 9: DLH
Round 10: Trinidad
Round 11: Trinidad
Round 12: Trinidad
115-114 for DLH.
The corner often gets blamed for DLH's strategy, but they told him "box, box, box", not to run and give away the rounds. One of them, I think Alcazar, told him "make sure they know you won the round". I don't know where this "they told him he had it in the bag and he could give away the rounds" comes in. DLH was tired, he said his legs were starting to shake, so maybe he had to stay away.
The Quartey decision was worse than this. "Oh, DLH nearly stopped Quartey in the last round!"He also did **** all for many rounds and lost all but one of the previous 6 rounds.

I agree for the most part. The fight was closer than a lot of people say. I had DLH narrowly ahead. There were close rounds, and DLH did not sweep the first 8-9 as people claim.

And the Ike fight was far worse. Even Jim Lampley, a man who holds pom poms every time Oscar fights, appeared stunned. And you're right, other than the 10th, I believe, Oscar hadn't won a round since the fourth? That was so shady.
I think what people overlook is what occured during that time. How Oscar refused to give Ike or Pea a rematch. And against Tito, he claimed he was robbed but didn't want a rematch. He knows why. He also REFUSED to fight Fernando Vargas because..."he disrespected me." Never mind the fact that he dragged Julio Cesar Chavez's corpse back into the ring because..."he disrespected me." Of course, after Tito ruined Vargas, Wilfredo Rivera underlined that ruinage then all of a sudden Vargas became a worthy opponent.
What about Mosley? Oscar swore he was robbed there too. Rematch? Pass...well, at least until Vernon Forrest taxed that a** a couple times.Comment
