Hopkins was an unknown and way too green just starting out his career. And Toney was a weight drained corpse that night and had to lose more than 50 pounds for the fight.
Was that Roy Jones' fault or was that their own faults?
people say tony had weight problems but ever time he lost he made the same excuse.
face it people roys the best ever
like it or not
but you know
I wouldn't go that far either. I'd venture to say that Mayweather was greater than Jones. He certainly had a greater impact than Jones did on mainstream society.
mayweather could only dream of doing things jones did in the ring. people say mayweathers defence is secound only to pernell. but both guys got hit more in the primes then roy y
when jones fought frazier (and many other opponents on that level), that was the best opponent/contender jones could come up with? there wasnt a better fighter willing to fight jones? come on.
also can a 10 year old not watch the sport of boxing?
people give jones credit for beating ruiz, but the fact is ruiz was not a legit heavyweight champ, he sucks, hes always ******, i dont know how he manages to find his way to title shots these days. there are SERIOUSLY lightweights that can beat john ruiz. jones being a "heavyweight champion" sounds ALOT better than "jones beat john ruiz". if ruiz didnt have a belt no one would have given a ****. i think jones would have had trouble with a fast hard hitting heavyweight maybe like david haye, and lennox lewis would have absolutely crushed him. if he wanted to make some kind of statement by moving into heavyweight, fight someone legit, not john ruiz. there were far better choices than john ruiz, just like there were far better choices than frazier.
what ever consume yourselves with the thought of jones' ****, but while he had a great career, my argument is that he was not what a p4p champ represents, he was no where near the p4p champ that pac is, and not even mayweather (even though i hate mayweather).
i like jones, hes not a bad guy, but he did not represent what a p4p champ should represent, therefore he was completely over rated.
1. Who was out there that Roy Jones ducked during his 168-175 prime???
2. Ruiz sucks??? THe same guy who defeated Holyfield, Rahman, Johnson, 7ft tall Valuev, Golota etc,. All the top contenders in his time.
Give me a break, this has got the be the worst post of the thread. Specially because it was soo long.

1. its not so much that roy was really ducking a number of fighters, more so that he wasnt fighting the best ones available at the time. fighting dudes like frazier when you are the p4p champ is just ******ed. he moved up to fight ruiz when there was bigger paydays and better opposition in the division.
2. YES RUIZ SUCKS! honestly, the only people ruiz has beaten are the ones that are as slow and boring as he is. holyfield had pretty much fell off by the time he fought ruiz, also he didnt beat valuev(who has to be the worst 7 footer on the planet) last time i checked. as for the other three, do i even need to speak about any of them? especially rahman.... ruiz has never shown any signs of being a truly great heavyweight. if roy jones didnt beat ruiz, you would probably be bashing ruiz right about now. put ruiz in with peter, lewis, klitschko, brock, thompson, haye; they would all embarrass him.
