How was Roy Jones P4P #1 for so many years?Why didnt he ever step up his competition?

Michalczewski-Jones was the no-brain fight of the era and the only fight which should have happened. To suggest that Jones ducked “insert fighter” is revisionist bull**** (and it’s the same for another fighter fighting in New York this weekend).

Hopkins no. Toney it was close I think and James might have been a slight favourite. Jones was definately expected to beat Bernard though.

i mean Hopkins was 27, had more pro fights and was ranked #1 by the IBF for middleweights. But he was no good!! Two years later he became middleweight champ defeating Mercado for the belt. Roy was 24, with less pro fights, but a better amateur background. If Hopkins was such a loser when Hopkins fought him how come all the broadcasters were saying hopkins is the best opponent Roy has fought?

Its Roy's fault that on the eve of his biggest fight James Toney didn't train properly and balooned up to a heavyweight. Honestly I wouldn't be suprised if Toney was always weight drained....especially at the lighter weight classes. I heard James use to hide pizza boxes under his bed. Toney was #1 p4p when roy beat him.

Both are very good wins.

Toney was the favorite going into the Jones fight, he had just put in a very good performance against Prince Charles Williams the fight before, what I don't get about Toney is why did he gain so much weight in between the Williams and Jones fight? I mean Toney already knew he had to fight Jones in 3 months before the Williams fight, and yet he still ballooned up to reportedly 200 pounds, very ******.
