We both know the body needs blood in the muscles and larger muscles obviously would retain more blood. I'm no physician, but that does not explain how one athlete can do the same things at one weight with one body type and another can do the same things at the same weight with a different body type. The weight has to be somewhwere, and the heart pumps at about the same rate based on the weight. Your concept may be able to be proven medically, but taking what you have said in consideration up until this point is only opinion, no matter how well the opinion is presented.
Simply put, the more muscle mass you have, the more energy your body has to spend to move that muscle mass, and the quicker you run out of gas. That's the biggest difference. Also, fat reserves make a slight difference. Roy has almost no fat reserves, and your body will burn fat for energy over an extended and strenuous physical exertion like a boxing match after it runs out of the glycogen stored in your muscles.

And that's only part of it. Lungs, heart, vascular system all have to be in perfect condition. I think Roy is probably in about the best condition he can be in, but it's not at quite the same level as Joe has been in the past, and is capable of. How he shows up on fight night is the only thing that's in question, and I don't see any reason he'd change what's worked for him so far.

A good way to tell what kind of condition someone is in is to check their resting heart rate, have them sprint for 45 seconds, check it then, then exactly 1 minute later, and see how much it raises, and how close it gets back to resting after that minute rest.

My resting heart rate, when I was 20 years old, was 44 bpm, and was back to 59 after a minute rest following a 45 second sprint. I'm guessing Joe's is at least that good, maybe better.

As I said before. Your point is well put, however there is no real scientific proof attached to your claim.

Example: Lance Armstrong has probably .5-1% body fat when he starts a endurance race, right? So that means little to no body fat reserves. That on top of being pretty well muscular in his lower body does not support the ingredients of your thoery since you and i both know Lance has as good of endurance as anyone who has probably ever lived.

Back to where we were before, without real proof, this is your opinion only. I'm not being stubborn because I am a Jones fan, because i don't think Jones will have to have better endurance to beat Calzaghe.

Armstrong is probably closer to 4% or 5% at the start of the Tour, and probably at around 2% when he's finished. Also, his resting heart rate (I read this somewhere recently, not just making it up) is something like 35 bpm, and around 200 bpm peak, has a lung capacity roughly twice that of the average person, and his heart is 1/3 larger. And he's probably about the best conditioned athlete in the world.

        • Chase, it's been great debating this with you today, but I've got to ****/shower/shave and get to a meeting. We'll continue this later, I hope.

Jones is shot. That's why. He even looked like crap in Tarver 1 but gutted it out. I believe Jones was slipping even before the Woods fight. A guy like Woods should not have tagged Jones as much as he did, but that's another story. Point being Roy is shot. That is why he will not win.

Calzaghe's fans will trumpet this as a HUGE win and declare him the best fighter since Robinson. People with a brain know what is up. This is a joke fight. Roy should not have fought after Tarver 1. Hell technically not even after Ruiz.
Hmmm, guess people don't believe in will anymore.
Thanks for replying and breaking it down for me. I like posts like these.
Guess there are more people then I thought who actually had knowledge in this forum.

Hell yea, good stuff. That almost supports my theory.

One thing though: Motocross is the 2nd most physically demanding sport in the world with soccer being first. Ricky Carmichael was @ 2% body fat in his peak years. I know that for a fact. I just have a hard time believing Ricky had a lower fat percentage than Armstrong even at the start of a race. I could be wrong, because as a former motocross racer, I can honestly say that i have never done anything more physically exerting.

Absolutely. Very enjoyable conversation when two parties can understand the points being made and respect one anothers opinions while remaining calm. Would'nt mind adding ya to the friends list. Approve if you approve, LOL. I'll be looking back at this thread periodically as well.

                    • I won't be as brash as Mr Alderson and guarantee anything, but I am confident Roy will win and look impressive in doing so.
