In fact he only got a title shot after 49 fights and was robbed of the win.
Exactly. It was one of Hagler's main points of outrage - he wasn't given the public notoriety he felt he deserved.

[QUOTE=Tunney;4184535]Kelly's not getting the kind of attention the black middleweight champions like Hagler received at the same point in their careers.

Your ignorance is incredible. When Hagler was at Kelly Pavlik's stage of his career he was no where near a title shot and was unknown. Of course after he won the title Pavlik couldn't carry his jockstrap if you compare talent and accomplishments. Hagler had a much better chin, better boxer, faster, and punched at least as hard. You are truly a joke. Either you don't really live in this country and are just guessing, lying, or just a very ignorant person. Or all of the above.

Tunney could surely find better examples like... Bernard Hopkins who was completely unknown until beating Trinidad in his 13th (or 14th?) title defense, 42nd fight at age 36.

I don't even think that many people who calls each other racist on this forum know what being racist is. It means that a person believes that his races is superior to another or that they are better, so an opinion on a sucky heavyweight division has nothing to do with that.

                Indeed.

The word 'racist' is thrown around so often in these forums.

Some people here might be ignorant or annoying but hardly racist.

People I know have never heard of Pavlik, but everyone has heard of Kimbo Slice. But who is the better fighter?

Some people in the American sports media love black fighters..
Comparing Kimbo to Pavlik is not a fair comparison. Different situations. How much attention did Jermaine Taylor get by the mainstream media after winning the middleweight title? Most people probably can't tell you who he is either despite being in the spotlight longer.

Besides, it's ironic that you used Kimbo considering this is "proof" of a black advantage when it reality most of the "fans" are white people who view just view him as this big, scary black guy. Anyone catch when after one of his first fights the announcer said "he just climbed the cage like king kong!" He's a sideshow that no one looks up to and will turn their backs on him as soon as he loses, which has already happened. This is what you consider to be "racist" toward white people?

Actually, I thought the division was worse whe Ruiz and Rahman had belts. Vitali winning only made it stronger because Peter was not a good champion no matter how you spin it. I can't lie about wanting to see Vitali and Valuev go at it before Gomez although Gomez desreves it more. But the size aspect makes me want to see Vitali fight Valuev. Or Wlad vs Valuev.
