Is it racist to think the current heavyweights are crap?

[QUOTE=Tunney;4184648]Cooney was a rising, undefeated young star going into his fight with Holmes, and his round 1 KO of Norton brought him a little notoriety.
Cooney was beating old men who were shadows of what they once were. He was protected. To this day he has not beaten a legit top ten fighter. So that's another lie on your part. You have no casef with Cooney. Even Larry Merchant pointed this out.
But young Mike Tyson got much more attention before his first title fight. Mostly only boxing fans heard about Cooney,
Thats a lie. Cooney was on the cover of Time Magazine wih Sylvester Stallone. How many people buy time magazine to read about boxers?
Mike Tyson was fighting much better fighters than Cooney was and he won a belt at the age of 20. Are you really that ****** to compare the two?Comment

No It's not racist.. unless of course, you are being racist.. but, like you or anyone would admit it.. Perhaps people are not even aware that is the reason.. But you cannot deny the Klitschkos are Quite unfairly criticised, often for things that the same people will defend in other fighters..1. Wladimir Klitschko
2. Vitali Klitschko
3. Ruslan Chagaev
4. Alexander Povetkin
5. Nikolai Valuev
6. Sultan Ibragimov
7. Alexander Dimitrenko
8. Samuel Peter
9. Juan Carlos Gomez
10. Tony Thompson

I'm aware that Cooney never beat a prime elite fighter. I was never too high on Cooney, partly because I think he was foolish to ruin his life with booze and drugs.
But it's a fact that Mike Tyson ALSO fought mostly bums and older fighters until his first title fight. It's also a fact that Tyson failed to qualify for the Olympics, before he turned pro.Last edited by The Hammer; 10-13-2008, 07:57 PM.Comment

Well that's unfortunate if they are truly the ones who have told you those lies. Now I know where the blame should be directed.Comment

[QUOTE=Tunney;4184710]That's the whole point. When Tyson won the belt he was only 20 and fought everybody out there from that point on. Cooney was always protected from the best fighters other than Holmes. There is no question about that.Comment

Of course not.
People have ALWAYS talked about how the heavyweight division is weak, no matter who is in there.
Hell, people where saying during the early and mid 90s that the division was weak. Now it's looked upon as the 2nd best HW era ever.
The HW division is indeed poor right now, but that's nothing new.Comment

Tyson was a phenom. Regardless of color your going to get a lot of recognition if you have that type of talent. The question is if there was a white up and coming heavyweight who was an exact clone of Tyson, would he get more recognition? I think the answer is a definite "yes". An untalented white fighter will not be as popular as a super talented black fighter but that's not a fair comparison. The truth comes when you try to match up equal talent, titles, etc. THEN add race.I'm aware that Cooney never beat a prime elite fighter. I was never too high on Cooney, because I also think he was foolish to ruin his life with booze and drugs.

6. Sultan Ibragimov
