I beg to differ sir look at his losses
Tyson is listed at 5'10 -11
Douglas 6'4
Lewis 6'5
Holyfield 6'2
McBride 6'6
Williams 6'3
Now he did beat some bigger HW but at 5'10-11 there arent much HW that are smaller height wise then him. But in comparision excluding Holy 4 or more inches is considerably bigger. Holy is Tyson is 5'10 is 4 inches bigger. I still thinki Tyson is closer to 5'11 but I am not an offical governing body so be it....Lefty
He also had his best wins against taller men. Ruddock, Tucker, Holmes, Bruno, Biggs, even Spinks.
as far as tua. the weight did slow him down. he was at his best at 210-215. also another disadvantage tua has is his era had much larger opponents that rocky's or even mike's to a slight degree. most of rocky's opponents were around 6 foot or so for the most part which isn't too bad for the 5'10 rocky. in today's era 6'2 or 6'3 guys are considered small heavyweights.
Lewis was the one fight in which Tua's lack of height and reach really cost him but he also came in overweight and slow which made his chances to win even worse.
Tua had most of his fights against opponents who were 6'2-6'3. It's the average height for a heavyweight even now, we just forget about it with giants like Wladimir, Vitali, Bowe and Lewis.
Povetkin, Ibragimov, Chagaev, Maskaev, Rahman, Ruiz, Peter, Brewster...Last edited by TheGreatA; 10-02-2008, 09:29 AM.Comment

ike DID NOT beat tua. period.
being taller and with a longer reach would certainly have helped tua though. he's about 5'10 and has a 69-70 inch reach. who's to say he couldn't have done better if he was taller or had a longer reach.Comment

byrd beat tua with his defense and jab and overall slickness.

I would say so if he was taller with the same chin and power.Comment

They also had to work incredibly hard to get inside by slipping punches. A lot of the time they ate heavy leather on the way inside too.Comment

i don't care about tua's height or reach as much as his WIDTH.
a prime tua at about 210-215 would've done better against lewis imo. i don't know if he could beat someone as good as lennox but he would've done better.
although...... i think 6'5 is a bit tough for him. maybe it took a little off his power having to punch that high? i don't know...... he landed some shots on lennox but lennox took it pretty well.Comment

Corrales/Mayweather is a bad example btw, and you got the official height wrong.
Floyd actually won by fighting the "taller" fight. Corrales tried to get inside (without using a jab) and Floyd used his reach and tore Diego up from the outside with sharp counters and lead left hooks.Comment

he'd probably fight different if he was taller too. it's all hypothetical anyway.

Frazier came in both fights against Foreman as heavy as Foreman although he was around 205 for his best performances.
Tyson was at his best when he was 210-220 lbs but at the end of his career he got up to 225-235, noticeably slower than in his prime.
Marciano was smart enough to retire before that happened to him. He was having problems getting down to his usual 185 lbs and decided to call it quits.Comment
