Also, I thought he beat Cotto, and even being 1-1 against prime Oscar is pretty impressive. Losing to only 3 fighters when you are a 3 division champ is nothing to cry about. You guys are making too big a deal of his shortcomings. Shane is a great fighter and a hall of famer no doubt.
I was responding to whoever said that he never made lame excuses after a fight.

In a fight that Wright clearly won (the rematch), he made a big deal out of the judges getting it wrong, etc. etc.

      That's all I was saying.

And yes, 3 division champ, but... one marquis name (I guess two if you think that the Vargas who is incapable of winning is still a marquis name) in the win column. He didn't fight anyone at his natural weight... 135 (Stevie Johnston anyone?), and lost a lot at the higher weights. I just don't know what he has to hang his hat on other than ODLH at 147 as what sets his career apart from a Zab Judah or someone like that.

I was thinking something more along the lines of "Mosley fans can't take criticism about their boy".

so i assume you have zero respect for Toney, Roy, Shane or anyone who was linked to Balco at that time...no problem with that..

he performed much better in the return bout with Winky and he's lambasted for 'questioning' the decision...its not like Barrera and everyone in his family crying 'conspiracy' theory after his loss to JMM...

i think the best title would be 'nitpicking on a slow friday morning'....that'll work for me

The dude did beat Collazo. Despite what people say, he is very impressive to me and couldn't get off on Mosley at all. He was on his way to taking on Raul Marquez before he got very lucky with the NC. And he fought some very hard contenders and title holders and always won convincingly (like his first titleshot against Holiday). Also, this is a guy who came up from lightweight to what he did. But I hear ya, he's not perfect, I just think he's still pretty great.

I have less respect for Holyfield, Vargas and Toney than I once did. My understanding of the Roy Jones situation is that he didn't do anything wrong, and the substance he used was not illegal at the time he used it.

I mean, he's a good fighter, but some Mosley fans want to act like his resume is just ****ing world class. It's not. So, I'm glad someone realizes it. Same with me. I like Winky Wright a lot, but... his resume doesn't really cut it for something spectacular. Taylor and Vargas should be wins IMO, but not everyone feels that way, which leaves him with Mosley twice and Trinidad. Not particularly grabbing when it comes to stellar resumes.

My knock on him is his resume, and the roids don't help. If you can't win while taking roids, that is truly saying something about the quality of fighter you are.

And **** Barrera for crying robbery against JMM.

I was just answering whoever said that he never makes excuses for his losses. While he did better in the Wright rematch, anyone who says he won is insane.

Collazo and Marquez = good fighters. They really are. They aren't great though. I think that is kind of representative of Shane Mosley. He beats very good fighters by convincing margins, but cannot convert that to victories against elite fighters.

I think Shane is a ok fighter above average at best. Mosley gets more credit for his career because he is so well liked. You know most people don't like to critize so called good guys. His win over De la Hoya was a very good win no one can take that away. But Mosley could never make mid-fight adjustments to his opponent. If Mosley's plan A wasn't working then he was just ****ed because he can't make adjustments mid-fight. Mosley's losses to Forrest, Wright and Cotto prove that. Think about it Mosley did much better in his rematches with Forrest and Wright. He couldn't even adjust to stop getting hit with the right hand in the Cotto fight.

He is a fighter that people usually want to see do well or respected if he wins against who they wanted to win. Shane reminds me of the fresh prince, how can u not like this dude. Big ups to sugar Shane, he was, and is great for this sport. Bring it on mayorga and margo, cuz u know he comes to fight!!
Very much like Oscar, you'd assume Shane Mosley is a nice guy. Yet he did roids in the past and fighting at such age is preventing other younger top fighters from having more tv dates...
