Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley proved something outside the ring Saturday – they knew what they were doing when they avoided fights with Antonio Margarito.

Margarito (37-5, 27 KOs) recorded a technical knockout victory over previously unbeaten Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs) at 2:05 in the 11th round to become the WBA welterweight (147 pounds) champion in front of 10,477 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Despite a strong start by Cotto, Margarito managed to shrug off nearly half the punches thrown. Margarito advanced through the early rounds and added his own pressure throwing nearly 100 punches a round.

Call and ask the Grand, that is all that I am saying. Im outta here. Gonna go eat some fajitas!!!!!

Some of you are trying to portray this fight as a success. IT. WAS. NOT.

It was an enjoyable fight to watch. And it is an enjoyable fight to discuss. The Margarito win has really opened up a lot of options at 147/154 (although Tony is wussing out).

But, COMMERCIALLY, this fight was a disappointment. The arena was 40% empty, and the PPV sales were low.

It wasnt 40% empty thats all I have beef with. There was a huge black curtain that maybe if removed they add seats to bigger events(like de lahoya) but for that event it was pretty much packed to the brim when it came to avaliable seats.

It is not packed to the brim when they curtain it off. They curtain it off to keep it looking full for the TV cameras.

They would have sold every seat they could. That "curtaining off" is typically used at places like the SuperDome.
