Kessler will beat Hopkins now??? Hopkins gave Calzaghe his hardest fight and dropped him. Kessler was used as a test dummy. Hopkins would eat up Kessler style.Comment

You are 100 percent correct. It's ridiculous to say a win over a young, hungry, dangerous, prime world champion, is less impressive than a win over a 43 year old fighter who has been past his prime for years now. People seem to forget that Hopkins recent wins came over old fighters. His last young opponent was Jermaine Taylor and he lost twice(no,Hopkins didn't win those fights). People are going to really see his age against Pavlik. P4P rankings don't mean **** because some of the people making them are as uninformed and misinformed as the people claiming that Hopkins was a better win. I can't believe the bull**** I read on here sometimes.
A young, hungry, dangerous prime champ? It's Mikkel Kessler, not Miguel Cotto. And wins over Librado Andrade and guys like Anthony Mundine don't quite compare to Antonio Tarver and Ronald Winky Wright. I don't know, call me crazy - I just don't see it. And frankly, neither do you since you conveniently overlook Hopkins two fights prior to Joe C. and don't tell us ANYTHING about what this young, hungry, dangerous prime champ did to make you call him that! You'll have to forgive me, I'm still waiting on Kessler to beat an elite opponent.
I agree with you on one thing though - I think everyone will see Hopkins' age against Pavlik (for those who didn't see it against Winky). Sadly, even at this advanced stage, he gave Calzaghe the toughest fight of his career. What does that say about the quality of the young, hungry, dangerous prime champ?Comment

Neither can I. Sadly, this post ranks right up there with the worst of them.

Don't you think that Hopkins really showed his age in the Joe fight though? I think that a younger Hopkins, even only a couple of years, probably would have won that fight given how poor Joe was. Hopkins pretty much dedicated himself to defence and spoiling for the entire second half of the fight.
Yes, Hopkins looked old against Calzaghe. Of course he did. He was looking for a blow in round five. He's old, man. I don't know what happens against Pavlik but I sincerely hope he walks away soon. The bells are ringing.Comment

Let me get this straight. Your best win can be a fighter who is unproven and has no achievement in his career to brag about. Example what was Tyson best win. Beating a prime Bruno or Past his prime Holmes who gave him troubles with his jab and his inactivity lead to that knock out.Comment

You raise Cotto as an example of what Kessler should aspire to, as though he is far and away the better man, and I don't think this is true at all. Cotto is right now one of the three best boxers at welter, along with Williams and Margarito, whereas Kessler is the best by a mile in SMW, assuming Joe does not come back. Throw in MW and LHW too and I'd say only Pavlik, Abraham and Dawson are in Kessler's league, and I believe he would start as favourite against any of them. You can argue it either way, and yes, I know Cotto has a better resume, but is he a better boxer than Mikkel Kessler, I don't think so.Comment

If you can't see the quality Mikkel Kessler has you must be crazy, and I say that not as a Joe fan, but a fan of boxing. Kessler does not have the wins over fighters of big reputation, thats true, but he is young and at SMW the only fighter of that calibre was Calzaghe anyway. He beat experienced champions in the division at a very young age, and made a series of solid defences, in fact had he not run out of opponents his resume would actually be close to bettering Calzaghe's in the division, which is hard for me to admit.
