What do you think about Hopkins 'career defining' win over Trinidad? My view is that while Hopkins boxed well, it was his size and strength that enabled him to do this, it being easier to control a smaller opponent. Hopkins fans hate it when I say this, but to me it is obvious from the way the fight played out and indeed ended. This isn't me hating on B-Hop, its just the way I see the fight. You might say something similar about Calzaghe's performance against Lacy, its easy to look good when your opponent hasn't got anything to worry you.
21 year old Joe Calzaghe I suggest haters watch this!

Both of them were underdogs in fights that, in hindsight they should not have been. To me, I think both those fights more showcased what had been there all along rather than brought it out. Joe and Hop had been in the background a bit and needed a big fight to get them exposure and Tito/Lacy gave them that.
Of course, People discredit Hops win over Tito with the reason you said. BUT, Lacy was overrated as hell, so you could do the same to Joes win imo. They were both very good wins.Comment

I agree, mostly. Lacy was overrated and Tito was really a welterweight, but both Calzaghe and Hopkins DID lay the beatdown on them and look good doing so. You are dead on about the effect these fights had on their careers. Just another of the many spooky similarities between Calzaghe and Hopkins boxing careers.Calzaghes defining fight over Lacy is pretty similar.

I don't think Tito was a welter. He had been fighting very effectivly at 154, and apperntly had been having a bit of trouble making 147 towards the end of his run there. But, both Tito and Lacy didn't do a lot after their fights with Hopkins and Calzaghe.I agree, mostly. I agree fully, the careers of Calzaghe and Hopkins are so very similar. It is pretty weird eh?

Off topic for a second T-97, have you watched any good fights I might not have seen recently? The super-flyweight fight between Segura and Canchilla on the Cotto - Marg undercard was good and Bernabe Concepcion is a kind of cool prospect if you haven't seen them. Also watched Nonito Donaire beat Vic Darchynian last night and Donaire looks to be top class.I don't think Tito was a welter. loll its easy for any boxer to look good against this guy. u still cant compare him to a young roy jones though lmao...
its calzaghes own fault he has his hand problems really, he always hits the pads when his wraps arent properly wrapped and he always wraps them himself. mayweather used to have the same problem but when he started getting someone to wrap his hands for him the injuries stopped.Comment
