To stay out of court and make the Williams fight (which he was allegedly "forced" to take), Margarito had to extend his contract with Top Rank for a couple of years. They can't make him fight anybody, but Margarito also can't fight for another promoter without Top Rank having to be satisfied. And now that his name value is at its peak, they won't be easily satisfied. Don't you remember in the past all the fighters who were stuck in contracts with Don King? That led to plenty of fighters being kept on ice and killed a lot of big fights.

1. Show me the source that says Margarito was forced into signing a contract extension. All I know is that no representative of Top Rank chose to show up for the WBO Williams - Margarito purse bid and Goosen grabbed it. Could have been Arum's tactic to keep blame off of Margarito but it didn't work since everybody was on the Most feared welter cricizing him for saying "that Williams isn't worthy, who has Williams beaten". Something Mayweather usually does.


2. The only Don King tactic I see from Arum is him trying to keep control of the welterweight division the same way King did with the heavyweights. By having top welterweights from Top Rank fight each other, that way no matter who wins or losses......ARUM WINS.

This thread is a joke. The difference between Margarito and Mayweather is that Margarito has fought everyone including Williams (when he already had a cotto fight set) and he suffered a loss on his record because of it. Mayweather on the other hand avoided all the top fighters in his division and even retired in his prime in order to protect his 0.

Margarito isnt going anywhere and if Williams continues having success, it will only make the rematch that much bigger. It's so ridiculous for Mayweather fans to accuse Margarito of being a coward for not getting a rematch immediately after cotto while excusing Mayweather and even crowning him the greatest WW of his era when he never fought the top welterweights at all.
