He is most definitely overrated by many on this board. He acts like a someone who is bad ass but doesn't care and promotes this image of him being a natural fighter. People just eat it up. But there is no way you get the type of skill he has without being a gym rat. Sure he may not show up in shape many times but that doesn't mean he didn't spend hours and days and years practicing his moves in the gym.

A few years back (05) I did a poll of Vitali vs Toney. This was while Vitali was considered #1 heavyweight at the time. But there were some respected members of boxingscene going for Toney. Its ludicrous, this guy would go on to draw to Rahman (which Rahman should have won), and lose to Peter twice.

And the crazy thing is that if you put up a poll right now there would still be some crazy bastards who think he could knock out Vladimir. This guy, at this point in time is like Zab, people are rating him on ability he doesn't have. Sure he is a defensive genious but he does get hit, especially with jabs. But according to some if he fights one of those over hyped Klitchko bums he's gonna make them miss like crazy and knock them out.

He is assuming that because ICANTLIE is black he was surrounded or was raised by gang ****ers and crackheads which is a racial stereotype.

to each his own. not many fighters could do what toney did, and he has fought all the way up from much lower weights, and managed to hang with heavies, and handle shots from them very well. not to many former middle, and smw fighters can say the same. it will be a long time till we see anyone nearly as skilled or tough as toney. plus his personality is great on top of that.

I agree with that. That doesnt change the fact that some people feel that he can do more than manage to hang with the heavies, and are therefore over rating him.

You are a clown. OMG! james Toney lost to sam peter and drew with Rahman! He must be trash! The fact of the matter is, James Toney should not be able to go to heavy weight and be as competitive as he has. The dude is a former middle weight give him his props.
We're on a forum. Your gonna run into some knuckle heads and sometimes its a popularity contest. Come on man, some people on here will try to tell you that Maragrito has skills. It's all in what appeals to you. If you can't see the greatness that is James Toney, then thats on you. Fat ass or not he's one of the slickest and most skilled fighters ever.
