Only complete haters would say that he quit. He got beat, plain and simple.
Did Miguel Cotto Quit?

The way I see it is that every time an undefeated fighter loses his 0, he is vilified and made fun of by people who have never fought in their life. Why, because it meets some agenda or another. It's like the old gladiators when they used to throw them in to fight lions, it fulfilled a certain blood thirst in the spectators who rooted for the lion to eat the guy but gave him props if he happened to survive that attack.
Since you can't have those kinds of public executions, others resort to character assassination as a way of getting their kicks in.
We saw it with Juan Diaz, Giovanni Lorenzo, Jermain Taylor because people forget that everyone loses. Sooner or later if you keep fighting top guys, you will lose. If you're unbeaten thats because you haven't fought the right guy. Or the wrong one.Comment

I was here at the fight inLas Vegas along with Rogelio. Cotto CLEARLY quit. The 2008 version of "No Mas". PRs were walking out crying and pissed. They were talki . ng anwhole bunch of **** before the fight, but they ALL left before they could announce the time of stoppage. They were gettin punked by the Mexicans. Not one PR was talking **** afterwards. They were crying and sad. I got so much heat for wearing my flag like a cape by the PRs, and it felt good to see them be sore losers afterwards. But Cotto did quit. It was VERY CLEAR.

He mos def did not quit. His trainer threw in the towel, but he did not quit. Cotto will be ok, he'll be back. Margarito just proved that he is what everybody said he was. Dangerous. I think this may be a good thing for Cotto to lose this fight. I still think he can beat Mayweather though... would Margarito be able to beat Mayweather after what he showed last night?Comment

Taking a knee and then taking another without taking anymore hits is quitting. However I have no problem with him doing so. He was only going to absorb more punishment. It was the sensible thing to do and he will live to fight another day. Having said that I have never nor will I in future, question his courage or commitment. Tony was too good for him on the night and he knew he had no more to give. Doesn't make him any less of a warrior in my book.Comment

Yes, I am an active Amateur, thank you very much. I have also been defending Cotto. Please point out where I said there was anything wrong with what Cotto did.Have you ever fought before, or do you know people who are professional fighters that could enlighten you to the definition of quitting in a fight? Because if not, then this is your opinion and interpretation and not to be pushed on others as fact.
You share one view, other people share their own views. My view is different from yours. You might read into a fighter's body language or simply have a grudge to exercise against him, but my perspective is that when a corner throws in the towel, then that is not quitting because Cotto didn't say I give up or gesture otherwise, his corner did the responsible thing and stopped the fight.
I know you are unfamiliar with the concept of impartial observation, but that is what I do.
Cotto quit. I would have loved for Cotto to "pop his probe" to victory, but it didn't happen. He quit.
Maybe it is you that should enlighten us as to why you think Cotto did not quit.Comment

The first knockdown, no, he just took a quick break. When he got up and Margarito jumped on him again, and he just sat down in the corner, the expression on his face, to me, looked like he didn't want to continue, and as if he sat down and said "Margarito, you beat me, I give up". That is just my opinion though.Comment
