I simply do not like comparing what Duran did against Leonard or what Freitas did against Diaz to what Cotto did against Margarito.

For me, a man taking a beating in the last rounds of the fight and having nothing left is not quitting. There was blood all over him, the body punches had taken their toll and Margarito was now landing at will on Cotto's chin with punches that he had no business landing earlier.

This is the point when a fight turns dangerous and should be stopped. Cotto went to a knee, and got up. Had the corner not stopped the fight, he would've gone on to take a few more punches before going down again. I'm quite sure of that.
Dictionary.com gives us this definition for quitting: to give up or resign; let go; relinquish.

Cotto did not want to continue. He was looking for a way out of the fight. If they let the fight continue, Cotto would have taken another knee.

If you watched the undercard fight you have an excellent point of reference as to how a fighter can continue on fighting with nothing left in the tank.

Cotto did not want to do that. He gave up. Gave in. Looked for a way out, and found it.

He quit. Plain and simple. There is no way around it. He may not have uttered the words stop the fight, but everything he was doing was in an attempt to achieve that result.

When the corner finally stepped in, he walked over with a what the **** took you so long look on his face.

I answered yes , but both are correct. Cotto quit in the way that he was getting punished and Doubted himself, The second time he took a knee he had not been hit hard. He was bloody and could not see clearly because of the blood and the corner seen him hesitant and threw in the towel. So both could be right.

Cotto didnt want to continue and even went down without been touch of his own free will, He was looking for his corner to pull him out so they did, Even before then the referee was asking him if he wanted to continue but you could tell he didnt want to.

Have you ever fought before, or do you know people who are professional fighters that could enlighten you to the definition of quitting in a fight? Because if not, then this is your opinion and interpretation and not to be pushed on others as fact.

You share one view, other people share their own views. My view is different from yours. You might read into a fighter's body language or simply have a grudge to exercise against him, but my perspective is that when a corner throws in the towel, then that is not quitting because Cotto didn't say I give up or gesture otherwise, his corner did the responsible thing and stopped the fight.

I think his legs gave in, he was dead tired for the last 3 or 4 rounds.

There was nothing left for Cotto to do except take more flush haymakers to the head. I see him taking a knee as a way to get some time to regroup himself because he was being overwhelmed.

That's the way I saw it. Maybe he could have let himself get pummeled for another 4 minutes.
