The last knee actually looks like Cotto's right foot slipped and he just didnt have the energy to stay up. He was looking at the ref while counting and as his corner stepped in to stop he looked over like yeah, im done.
IMO he did not quit but he knew he was a beaten fighter.
He was wore down from the pressure and took a knee twice. He was never hit with a huge punch or a number of them in a row before he went down. It was like he just made up his mind that he was done with the fight and wanted out. If he had held he would have survived the round. He just didnt want any more so he quit. I was roothing for Cotto as well, so Im not some Margarito fan talking **** on this one, Marg just made Cotto quit.
Look I've seen fighters quit, and I have my opinion on what quitting is. You may have a different opinion on it.
I simply do not like comparing what Duran did against Leonard or what Freitas did against Diaz to what Cotto did against Margarito.
For me, a man taking a beating in the last rounds of the fight and having nothing left is not quitting. There was blood all over him, the body punches had taken their toll and Margarito was now landing at will on Cotto's chin with punches that he had no business landing earlier.
This is the point when a fight turns dangerous and should be stopped. Cotto went to a knee, and got up. Had the corner not stopped the fight, he would've gone on to take a few more punches before going down again. I'm quite sure of that.
yes, but not by choice. imagine being in a fight hitting the oppentent with ur hardest shots and being forced to go on getting belted in the face constantly...he couldnt, hes not buiolt to be the pressured, he applies the pressure, and he finally succumbed to it, took two knees, and his long time trainer said much in the same way of Adrian, 'STOP THE FIGHT!!!!'
I was here at the fight inLas Vegas along with Rogelio. Cotto CLEARLY quit. The 2008 version of "No Mas". PRs were walking out crying and pissed. They were talki . ng anwhole bunch of **** before the fight, but they ALL left before they could announce the time of stoppage. They were gettin punked by the Mexicans. Not one PR was talking **** afterwards. They were crying and sad. I got so much heat for wearing my flag like a cape by the PRs, and it felt good to see them be sore losers afterwards. But Cotto did quit. It was VERY CLEAR.
No mas is a very different thing than your corner throwing in the towel.
Duran wasn't hurt and he said no mas, Cotto took two 8 counts and his corner threw in the towel. There is a difference.
