There's a reason Hopkins melted down to MW and hid out there his almost his whole career, never bothering to rematch Jones until he was shot or fight Toney, Calzaghe, anyone. Instead he hid out and chased the Allen trilogy and a couple of blown up WWs/SFWs.
He has developed into a pretty decent boxer, save the numerous headbutts and clinches, but his MW run definitely wasn't the greatest. And while the Pascal win was impressive (more than the Pavlik he dragged up two weight classes,) he certainly avoided fighting Dawson like the plague.Last edited by Jim Jeffries; 03-02-2011, 04:18 PM.

in his prime hopkins would outclass calzaghe. im not one to call ppl ****** just cuz they happen to disagree with me but i really cant see how anyone can make a case for calzaghe here. you would have to overrate calzaghe and underrate hopkins at the same time to even think it would be close.
hopkins wins every round and knocks him out in 8.

Hopkins does well against Southpaws, as we saw with Tarver and Winky, but Calzaghe was a different animal altogether.
He couldnt bully Joe
He couldnt confuse Joe
And he couldnt cheat against Joe
If Bernard cant, bully, cheat or confuse his opponent, he begins to flop around like a lost puppy. Joe beats him 10 times out of 10.

I'd give Hopkins a couple wins out of 10 though.

the lost puppy thing is just ignorant. very few fighters in the history of boxing were more well rounded and able to adapt then hopkins. in his prime he could fight at any distance or pace, he could lead or counter come forward or move around the ring. he could box or fight, he had speed and power, he had everything. only late in his career did he lose some of these dimensions.
joe if anything is the one who starts swinging wild like a journeyman when he cant outbox someone.
hopkins shuts him out then puts him to sleep 12 times out of 10 (no typo)
