bernard hopkins vs joe calzaghe prime vs prime

The knockdown was fair enough, Calzaghe got up and was fine. Anyone who fought Hopkins won that fight should never be allowed to score fights again. Hopkins didn't do **** all in that after round 1. Anyone can rough up anyone if your headbutting them every round.

He was counter punching effectively, punching through the wide looping shots of Calzaghe and the flurries.

Yea Joe would MAYBE bring more power but "IF" he got threw a YOUNG B HOPS defense he would probably break his hands on HOPS head. I doubt the little bit extra power a young calzaghe would bring to the ring would make any difference to a PRIME YOUNG HOP.

A young Joe and the Joe of today fights the SAME way, he fights to win the rounds by points... nothing more nothing less. The man cant do anything but throw many many punches to impress the judges to win the rounds with points.

A young HOP would walk right threw every "punch" and counter a hell of a lot more than he did at 43. HOP by UD. easy day......

Yeah I just think you are underrating Calzaghe a little bit. I'm not saying he beats Hopkins prime for prime but if you think that prime Joe only brings a little bit more power to the table than the Joe that fought Hopkins you are a fair way off the mark.

A prime Joe would have the ability to land punches that would actually affect Hopkins. THe punches Calzaghe landed in their actual fight were purely aimed at scoring points and winning a decision. In his pomp Joe had a great deal more on his punches. You are right though, Bernard is a defensive master and even with prime Joe's speed I think he finds it difficult to land a great deal. So yeah I think prime Bernard would win but I don't think it would be an easy fight for him at all and I wouldn'y be shocked if the fight went the other way.

Calzaghe vs Lacy used his superior speed to capitalise upon his opponent's aggressiveness, but the younger, harder punching Calzaghe did not really do this. He was often the better fighter on both the inside and the outside, and didn't need to show as much skill, so it's hard to say if he was as smart back then or if his ring intelligence improved once he reached his 30s.

Calzaghe's physical prime ended quite a while ago because of his hand problems, but his mental prime occured late on in his career. Because of this it is hard for me to say what version of Calzaghe would have the best chance against Hopkins.

If you take the Calzaghe that beat Lacy against the Hopkins that beat Trinidad, I would lean towards Hopkins. Calzaghe is a very good counter-puncher, but I think one of his flaws is that if he cannot fight that way, he will become the aggressor, and this means that Hopkins will have more chances to counter.

I think that Hopkins would probably win on points.

ok ill give you that. It might not be that easy. BUT I doubt ANY punch coming from Calzaghe would effect a YOUNG and PRIME HOP. NO ONE HAS ever seen him hurt, or even dazed. I doubt Mr. slapper himself would land anything that would even effect PRIME HOP.... anyone else I would say otherwise, but not HOP.. Dude can take punches along with BLOCKING 90% of anything coming his way anyhow... HOP by UD. Calzaghe would never in a million years KO HOP. ONLY chance calzaghe would have is if he out pointed him and he BARLEY out pointed a 43 year old version of HOP. Younger Hopkins is better suited to Younger Calzage imo, the old cagey southpaw expert was harder for him to master.

Hopkins, he was busier in his prime, the only realy reason he lost to Joe was because he was outworked.

I'd say Calzaghe would win @168 at any part of their careers though, p4p this is a close discussion.
