Yes I totally agree with this. People forget that Calzaghe was considered a puncher back when he put Chris Eubank on his arse. Eubank had one of the hardest chins in the game and Calzaghe took something like 60 seconds to drop him.

Constant hand troubles has lead to the Calzaghe, (or as some "very clever" yanks like to say, "Calslappy") we see today.

I disagree. I saw the first fight much closer then the second.

Hopkins got alot more done in that first fight.

You picked Wright to beat Calzaghe...
I thought you were better than that.

The Hopkins that fought Trinidad was every bit as smart as the Hopkins of today. He studied his opponents well and always came in with the perfect game plan. He had the perfect game plan against Calzaghe but was simply too past his prime to fully impliment it. Peak Hopkins had a more diversified arsenal, was faster, threw more punches, had better reflexes and far better stamina. Being that a 43 year old Hopkins made such a close fight with a younger and more closer to his prime Calzaghe, IMO a young Bernard Hopkins would be too smart for Calzaghe and would edge him in a close fight. Hopkins by majority decision. He was just too good.

I think if we had seen a prime Hopkins and a prime Calzaghe fight then in all likelihood we would probably see the same result we saw when the past prime Calzaghe and the past prime Hopkins fought. A close Calzaghe win based on workrate. Radical.

Popkins gets stopped in the later rounds, that's a more realistic outcome IMO.
