I'm not trying to change your view, but I'm just not sure if you have seen a younger Hopkins. You seem to be underestimating him a tad bit. Thats a good fight to watch. He didn't clinch as much, he was faster, younger, as smart ect as he was when he was older.

I have seen that fight before, not too long ago, but not very many of his fights from that era. I don't think i underestimate him though, I have routinely described him as excellent on these boards, just I think Calzaghe beats him is all. I feel as though you underestimate Calzaghe, for what its worth.

Calzaghe is one of my favorite fighters today and i would have liked to see him fight Pavlik(a fight i think he would have won) and finish his career on a good note. I love his style and slick southpaw style. I have the Lacy and Kessler fight on tape and i watch them very often. I have no problem with Joe. I just can't see him beating a young Hopkins.

I must admit that i won't be too happy if he fights Jones then retires becuase he would have some unfinished buisness becuase there are still good name fighter around for him to fight.

We did have a Olympic Gold Medalist in 1970's who went on to win the WBC light heavyweight title. Mate Parlov was his name.

We had another WBA light-heavy champ recently.

                Not much but it's something.

I think Hopkins was a very special fighter in his young days but I still think Calzaghe and especially Jones trump him in the past 10 years around his division.

It's easy to underestimate Calzaghe when the biggest name on his resume and they guy that gave him his toughest fight is a 43 year old Hopkins.

The Hopkins that beat Trinidad and Antwun Echols would have eaten Calzaghe alive. Look how Calzaghe and his 8 year age advantage was barely able to hang with an ancient Hopkins. Hopkins wasn't a tenth of what he once was.
