The only thing Mayweather had on Pernell is power and conditioning. Other than that, Pernells defense and ability to stay in the pocket and outclass his opposition is much better, as were his countering abilities. Pernell is easily one of the best 2 gifted fighters I have ever seen, the other being Floyd Mayweather Jr. Power, conditioning and the ability to stay in shape year round is what give the edge to Mayweather. Mayweather in this last stage of his career lived too much off of his reputation, which is why he avoided the best at 147.
Who's higher on your ATG list, Mayweather or Whitaker?

I'm a fan of Floyd's...not a blind lover. So I have no qualms saying Floyd is a great fighter, a first ballot Hall of Famer and COULD be even greater than where he stands now.Blind fan? Not even 135? Lol, Seriously get a grip, IF you want to pretend your not biased then atleast try and look good at it.
Whether it burns the hell out of you or not Mayweather is a linear champ in three divisions, and whether you like or not, in a few years from now history will do its work...
However, I don't think he's the greatest ever. And I count Pernell Whitaker among the people I place higher. Simple. I'm not even a fan of Pea's to be honest (really, who is??). But damn...Comment

The difference being, DLH lost most of those "big name" fights and quite a few more where he received and early christmas gift.

For those of you claiming that Whitaker is a greater than Mayweather by a landslide, you are ludicrous. It is very close, and while Whitaker may have get the nod, he is not some runaway winner that has Floyd kneeling to him when he passes.Comment

Floyd defended his title 8 times at 130, You are counting the overall resume while realising Floyd started at 130-154?Comment

If Mayweather got a draw against DLH you would have claimed it should have counted as a win. Don't lie
Yes and that's the best part of Mayweather's career (130). I don't even criticize him for not fighting Casamayor/Fretias because he couldn't make weight and he actually called them out.Floyd defended his title 8 times at 130, You are counting the overall resume while realising Floyd started at 130-154?
And Whitaker defended his titles 9 times at Lightweight, and that includes him unifying. Floyd never unified against Garcia or any of the other 130 champs (though Corrales should have kept his ****ing title
)
Oh and beating Rafeal Pineda is better then beating Arturo Gatti at 140.Last edited by warp1432; 06-16-2008, 10:21 PM.Comment

He won the title in it, he refused to defend in it, its a pretty big hit on his legacy and claims of greatness. When you look at it non biased, Floyd really only ruled 2 divisions. As for your last question, real or not, he fought there and beat the bummiest of champs to claim the title.
Avoided the rest of the division. I don't make this **** up, its fact.Comment

Wow...I had to take a step back for a sec.
I think I heard someone try to refute McGirt being better than Hatton.
Well guys, I'm done here. You can't win against boxrec warriors, I tell ya. They see the result and nothing else. Someone oughta tell them that on paper, a prime Floyd barely sc****d by an old Oscar De La Hoya. And on paper, a prime Oscar barely sc****d by an old Whitaker.Comment

Yes, but you have to agree that supposedly his biggest "win" against and undefeated, prime JCC, was actually a draw. And regardless of what kind of nose candy Whitaker was indulging in during the DLH fight, he did lose to him. This "*******" excuse is just that, an excuse. All it shows is an undisciplined fighter who was not strong enough to resist the temptation of dirty drugs, even if it meant that his career would suffer. If Whitaker wasn't on the drugs and he beat De La Hoya, he would be a clear cut ladder rung above Floyd. But the drugs in his life make this a very very close contest.Comment
