Joe Calzaghe is like Marmite, seem people love him, some people hate him. The people that love him like thier Marmite on toast whereas some people like it on their crumpets. Agreed?
Calzaghe Doesn't Give A **** About Legacy...

LOL, your just being modest. Thanks again for help on the sig you clever bugger.
Nicely trimmed down yes. I think it does go a lot deeper and more complex thought which is what gets such a response in return, reasons have been covered on prior pages.
Floyd didn't get quite as much hate for a ODL rematch, or retiring as what Calzaghe is even for just not choosing the fight some ppl want. Nor did Cotto get such a hard time for fighting Gomez. If Joe did either of those things to equivalent extents, the levels of hate would be extraordinary.
These are just 2 examples where others are genuinely more guilty of whats being accused of Calzaghe, to much bigger, and more critical extents, and more wide spread.Last edited by Kris Silver; 06-16-2008, 07:54 PM.Comment

What? To your post? I wouldn't hold my breath...
although this is usually about the time the ******s log on so you might reasonably expect the normal ritualised abuse, I don't know if its the end of the school day in America or something....Comment

Good post.Joe Calzaghe doesn't give a **** about his "legacy", at least not the way it will be seen in America. He is a Welshman, and a Brit, and back home he is already a legend who ruled his division for 11 years, became unified SMW champion then went over to America and took the belt off the man at the next weight up. He doesn't need to do a damn thing more, he doesn't care what the USA thinks. He will be remembered as possibly the greatest boxer his own country has ever produced. I think he'll be happy with that!
That's why some posters on here need to quit it with "Roy Jones proves nothing" yadayada, because Joe and most of his fans already know it. It's a megafight taken for money to round off an already great career. Sure it would be nice to beat Pavlik, buts lets be real, he's a MW champion with what, 2 defences who just happens to be the best America can muster right now, not some living legend superfighter, the one and only fighter against whom Joe can prove himself...the whole idea is crazy. He already beat the two guys who were in the same position in his own division.
There will always be another fighter out there for Joe to beat, after Pavlik it would be Chad Dawson, after him someone else. If Joe needs to beat them to prove something to you, then thats cool, but I'd be willing to bet Joe doesn't care. He's already achieved things other boxers literally dream about, and more than he could have ever expected, he sure doesn't need to prove anything to anyone else....Comment

If Calzaghe beat Pavlik he wouldn't get credit it would be like the Lacy facade all over again, If Calzaghe beat Dawson the same would be said, If Calzaghe beats Jones he was old and shot. Calzaghe can't win he can only beat whats put infront of him.Comment

Yup. And the reason? British boxer that is actually good.Comment

for people who like millions of windmill punches and amateur looking boxing calzaghe is your guy no doubt about it. everyone is tailor made for calzaghe anyway since he's the greatest. everyone in their little conventional boxing stances ha! calzaghe laughs at you then destroys you!Comment

calzaghe/rjj is just a money fight and means nothing for calzaghe's legacy at all. if calzaghe had beaten rjj or hopkins in their primes his legacy would be ATG imho. the fact that calzaghe/hopkins was so close imho means that a prime hopkins would've beaten calzaghe.Joe Calzaghe doesn't give a **** about his "legacy", at least not the way it will be seen in America.
