Joe himself only has had only three meaningful career wins. Lets not get that twisted with the padded Zolte Erdei-esque title defenses.

None of his opposition was genuinely incredible, Kelly is just the best young fighter near Joe's weight class that America currently has. Lacy was in the same position, so too was the non-American Kessler, Joe beat both after plenty of people said about them what they say about Pavlik now. And they were in his weight class!
Jeff Lacy was unproven and not the real champ of his division like Pavlik. Pavlike defeated the real champ to get his title. Kessler also was just a title holder. Lets not try spin this. Were those two Top 10 P4P when Calzaghe fought them?

How anyone can talk of Joe "proving himself" against Pavlik is beyond me. If anything Pavlik needs to earn a shot at Joe, for which moving up to SMW would probably be a good start. Kelly right now, is in the same position Joe was years ago, and I repeat, the notion that fighting Pavlik would prove anything is ludicrous.
Pavlik has earned a shot at joe by being in the top 10 P4P and being the real champ of his division. And the notion that fighting Pavlik wouldn't prove anything is ludicrous. Lets not act like Calzaghe is this long time champion at the top of his throne and Kelly being a new comer.

He doesn't need to do a damn thing more, he doesn't care what the USA thinks. He will be remembered as possibly the greatest boxer his own country has ever produced. I think he'll be happy with that!

That's why some posters on here need to quit it with "Roy Jones proves nothing" yadayada, because Joe and most of his fans already know it. It's a megafight taken for money to round off an already great career. Sure it would be nice to beat Pavlik, buts lets be real, he's a MW champion with what, 2 defences who just happens to be the best America can muster right now, not some living legend superfighter, the one and only fighter against whom Joe can prove himself...the whole idea is crazy. He already beat the two guys who were in the same position in his own division.

There will always be another fighter out there for Joe to beat, after Pavlik it would be Chad Dawson, after him someone else. If Joe needs to beat them to prove something to you, then thats cool, but I'd be willing to bet Joe doesn't care. He's already achieved things other boxers literally dream about, and more than he could have ever expected, he sure doesn't need to prove anything to anyone else....
When did you become Calzaghe's press secretary? This very well could be pissing Joe off to no end to fight Jones over Pavlik but maybe its a business decision, I am sure that Calzaghe cares about his legacy........
