Cotto at 145 was not somewhere that he has never fought before. Cotto had success at lower weight divisions too. It's not unknown territory. It's a matter of can he make the weight.

Cotto was Manny's second fight at 147 and Roach was still apprehensive in fighting full fledged WW since he was fighting at 130 less than 2 years before the Cotto fight!!!

Same goes for Cotto at 150. Cotto at 150 is not a mind buggling weight for him since he has been fighting at 154 for just one fight. Manny is already pushing the limits of what a 5'6" fighter can do. I doubt that Cotto would have trouble making 150.

If Manny had more fights left in him and beat Cotto at 150 then you could have seen him go up to 154 .... one or two fights later.

If you are talking about Cotto the fighter, 150 is not a big deal. For the title, it would have been preferable to fight at 154.

For Floyd, we are not talking about titles.

Floyd wanted to fight Hatton in 2004. After his second fight with Castillo, he tried to secure a fight with Hatton at 140 in what would have been Floyd's first fight at 140. Hatton's promoter, Frank Warren, turned the fight down, saying that Hatton wasn't ready. At the time Hatton was 33-0 and Warren was protecting his cash cow the way Arum protects Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. He knew Hatton was limited, skill wise, and did not want to expose him to Mayweather. The only reason Warren got Hatton the fight against Kostya Tyszu more than a year later was that Hatton demanded it, it was Hatton's last fight with Warren and Warren was trying to resign Hatton. Since Hatton turned the fight down, Mayweather fought Chop Chop Corley instead.

What was interesting about that situation is that Hatton was the mandatory challenger for Corley's WBO 140 pound title for two years before he fought Kostya Tyszu and never tried to pursue a title fight. Warren knew exactly what he was doing by putting Hatton in with nothing but stiffs.

Thanks for the info. Don't know why I don't remember any of this **** happening. Most likely because I didn't follow Mayweather too closely at the time.

Hatton fight is what it is and fits the theory we are discussing. You can't change that but Floyd still has time to add fighters unto his resume that are not questionable. That is what Floyd should focus on and then he will be fine but until then, the talk will undoubtedly continue.

THE POINT IS IF YOU WANT BELT FIGHT AT THAT LIMIT, DONT FIGHT FOR HEAVYWEIGHT BELT AND DEMAND A CRUISER WEIGHT LIMIT.

IF YOU AND i FIGHT A WELTERWEIGHT FIGHT, YET YOU CANT COME INTO THE LIMIT OF WELTERWEIGHT, SHOULD I get your title?

At this rate no one will ever catch pacs title run as they would need catchweights to do it. GET IT???

Now he wants a 154 title like floyd but at 150??? And you know damn well cotto wont be able to come in over 150 while pac will, just as he did with delahoya. pac weighed more than delahoya when tehy fought!!! lol!!!!

delahoya is bigger than floyd, pac says floyd is bigger than him, yet he weighed more than delahoya when they fought!!!!

                A ****IN JOKE!

Hatton: Fought Floyd at 147 but Hatton lived at 140. Hatton did not show he belonged at 147 as his only other fight there he struggled.
This is rubbish that gets repeated and repeated and bandwagon-ers jump on it and start repeating it.

Hatton is not a great welterweight but he is comfortable there, it was long overdue for him to start fighting at 147, considering how heavy he got in between fights, and he was getting older too, so it wasn't as comfortable or healthy to drop back down to 140.

And against Floyd, a former Super-Feather, it didn't matter, because it's not like he was fighting a monster natural Welterweight, naturally Floyd is lighter than Hatton. So lets stop repeating the Hatton is better at 140 nonsense.

No he is not, the opponents are better at 140, they're smaller and easier to TKO, Hatton himself was probably in healthier and better shape against Collazo at 147 than he was at 140 the fight after that, dehydrating himself.

147 Hatton Version that fought Floyd >>> 140 dehydrated version that fought Pacquiao.

That he is a better fighter at 140 is a myth, he was forced to keep making that weight because his fighting style couldn't handle big, strong opponents.

On top of that, Hatton and his team are quoted as saying that they need more "tune-up's" before they fight Floyd. Ricky Hatton was in attendance for the Gatti-Mayweather fight and couldn't drink the water out of his battle, he was intimidated. They didn't want any part of Floyd at 140.

And even when he finally was ready, he probably himself wanted the fight at 147, so he has the Junior-Welterweight Belt to fall back to if he losses. And he did, he remained relevant like Pavlik did at 160, after the Hopkins beatdown.

Is that all you can say about my post? You should know what I mean by Manny is already pushing his limits. Manny needs to be careful as he moves up as he is moving into unchartered territory. Plus, he plans to retire shortly so it's not like he can fight a couple of weaker opponents at 154 then fight Cotto at 154 for the title.

As for Qawi, his build was different than Manny for one thing. This included the reach difference. Still, I was talking about Manny and what his limits are. You can't deny the fact that he can't just walk up the next few divisions. His build is NOT made for it, so don't bring me an example (Qawi) and end it there. That was not where I was going with that post.

Now going back to Cotto. You seemed to not like the fact that they fought at 145. So now, if they fight at 150 that should also put a stamp of approval that it wouldn't have mattered if they fought at 145 or 147.
