To return to the subject of the thread for a minute, I have the feeling that Joe's 'retirement' will prove to be bull****. What I think will happen is that he will beat Roy Jones but be no more commital than he is now, he will say something like "I'll probably retire now, but you never know if the money is right".

A few months later I think he'll fight Pavlik. The timing is all wrong now, Pavlik has just made his name at MW and its not quite time to move up, another impressive win or two and that could change. Likewise a the clamour for a Joe who beat Hopkins and Jones to fight the USA's now proven young champ will be very much greater. UK posters will remember that the Lacy fight was billed as Joe's "career defining fight, at last" and I think we'll see a similar billing for Calzaghe-Pavlik, only this time it will be his career defining fight in the eyes of the USA. Hopefully we'll see a similar result, though surely less one sided. Now that really would be the way for Joe to end his career.

I hope he faces RJ. I'd love to see Jones beat him and go out on top himself. I wouldn't mind seein Joe C face Pavlik after that.

Roy wouldn't pick this fight if he didn't really think he could win it. I think his days of overestimating (Glen Johnson) are over. As far as the light tap that put Jones down against Johnson as someone said. It was accumulation not really that one punch that did it unlike Tarver's KO. I've watched the fight a few times and, there were harder shots that did land. Joe's only shot at a KO against Roy is threw accumulation and making him move around more than he wants. Roy still has something left to make Joe back the **** up though.

That's all am going to say.

Jones had his hands full with Anthony Hanshaw. Calzaghe is a few levels better than Hanshaw or a 170 lb Trinidad. This is the fight Joe should take if he wants to retire on top against a big name opponent.

Haha, how simple minded of you. Maybe you need to consider the fact that the only great US opposition for Joe under 40 is Pavlik and apart from that all the other contenders (Jones, Johnson, etc) are hitting the 40 mark and that YET AGAIN maybe the US public have overated the quality of their fighters. No Surely Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This would be a very interesting matchup. Let's just see will Joe try to crowd and swarm Roy like he did Hopkins? I am betting against it, because he knows that Roy is a little stronger and punches harder and faster than Hopkins.

Expect, Roy to settle down more on his punches now for power; Since it is later in his career. If the lead right hand that dropped him by Hopkins was effective, I wonder how is he going to deal with Roy's lead right hands, which is largely his money punch?

The major difference maker in this bout is Roy's confidence level. He is extremely confident that he can take not only Calzaghe's punches but Calzaghe as well.

Expect Jones to come in very focused in keeping this fight in the center of the ring. The days of him languishing along the ropes are for long over.

What does this fool mean one more big fight and he's done???? He's only had one big fight and it wasn't even on PPV. Manfredo and Kessler don't qualify as big fights and neither does Lacy. He barely edged out BHop in a fight that a lot of people thought he lost. He's boring and really not that good. I'm not sure who this guy thinks he is fighting his whole career protected by the WBO of all people. Roy please beat this fool down so I never hear about him again...please!!!!!

                      YA Must of forgot

You were somewhat on point until the last half of your statement. You dont think Calzaghe would beat him but beat him up? Calzaghe is a great fighter and I take nothing away from him. But in order to beat somebody up you must be able to hurt them. For the amount of punches he throws and lands its funny that with the acception of Jeff Lacy that none of his opponents physically look beaten up. Bernard Hopkins is a great fight and future HOF, and i give him a lot of credit for coming to the US "finally" to fight a marquee fighter. Props to him for that. However, he did beat up a 44yrs old man, who fights once a year, i give him credit for fighting b-hop first at light heavy weight, Honestly, "I give him more credit for that than actually beating B-hop". Roy had a cd out with the hit single "ya must of forgot" and that's where my point comes in. When i first read this thread i thought to myself that if this person is a "Hardcore" boxing fan
and he honestly feels that way he must live outside the United States and either doesnt know or never really actually saw Roy Jones (outside of his 2 knockout loses. Roy Jones is physically bigger than Calzaghe, as fast or maybe even faster than Calzaghe, hits harder than him and has way better defense, "even if his reflexes are not what they use to be." The only pluses i see 4 Calzaghe is his punch output. Which i guarantee wont be no where near the 80-100 punches per round, home field advantage(since the fight will be taking place in Wales) and maybe a better chin. When your fighting guys that you are faster than and your landing first it's easy to be aggressive. What makes me a little skeptical is that Bernard doesnt throw heavy punches (or even initiate offense) and he floored Joe in the 1st round with a right hand he just stuck out to stop him from coming forward, if you look at it he dipped to the left to block the incoming punch and in self defense stuck out his straight right and was dropped. Now Roy Jones, is a helluva of a lot faster than Bernard and hits harder. Unlike bernard who doesnt throw punches or try to force the issue, Roy is a lot of the opposite. He's going to be throwing punches at the same speed the Calzaghe will be. It's going to be hard for Joe to throw 80 punches while getting hit half of that time. Roy know for a fact that Calzaghe wont knock him out, If anything he thinks he could. This is a very dangerous fight for Calzaghe. I remember back in 98 or 99 when Calzaghe was basically willing to take peanuts for a fight with RJ when the entire world knew him, not just his fellow countrymen, the only catch he wanted it to take place in his hometown. Now at that time, how could anybody condemn RJ for refusing to go overseas and fight somebody that most of his fans didnt even know "Especially after what happen in the
Olympics"? Now the tides are a little reversed. RJ is not the fighter that 'PEOPLE think he use to be, and Calzaghe is top 3 pound for pound. Roy is setting Calzaghe up and he's falling for the bait. Calzaghe feels as if he needs this fight in order to cement his legacy and Roy jones is willing to fight him in order to resurrect his. He knows what he's doing and while it is very possible that Calzaghe can when this fight, it's going to be a whole different type of adversity that he's going to face. Give him credit for beating Bernard but even now I still dont think that Bernard is or was better than Roy Jones. And even though jones fought him 13 yrs ago it was a lot more convincing than what Joe did. If bernard was able to floor Calzaghe by just countering, it's hard to believe that a faster, stronger, offensively skilled fighter, cant do the same. Personally, i dont know who would win i know it would be entertaining but know way in hell is RJ getting "Beat UP' he might lose, but beating up by a guy who throws pity pat punches to the face and his hardest shot's are to the body i seriously doubt.
