In my opinion Calzaghe is actually at his best when fighting as a counter-puncher. Calzaghe's best performances were against Lacy and Kessler because those two both come forward. Calzaghe had better footwork and handspeed and was able to get out of the way of their punches and then lands fast counters. Calzaghe's worst performances have been against defensive counter-punchers/spoilers such as Bika and Salem.

Calzaghe did come forwards against Hopkins, but that was only because if he hadn't done so there would have been zero punches in that fight.

Your comment was that because he took Taylor's punches, he could beat Calzaghe. Considering that Calzaghe isn't a KO artist and relies upon speed rather than power, I don't see this as having any bearing on the result of the fight at all. If Pavlik did beat Calzaghe, his chin would not be the deciding factor.

one good punch and it's over. calzaghe looked shook everytime hopkins connected especially at the end of one round where the bell saved him from a knockdown.

And at least twice I asked "when has Calzaghe's chin" been truly challenged and no reply. I can't find any fights that prove that Calzaghe's chin has been tested, so that whole "Calzaghe's got a chin" argument isn't going to work with me.

Kessler punches harder than than Taylor, and Taylor had Pavlik hurt a lot worse than Kessler or anybody else has ever hurt Calzaghe. You refuse to believe that Calzaghe has a good chin based upon what you haven't seen, yet you rate Pavlik's chin even though he was badly hurt and knocked down by Taylor, who has never scored a KO at the highest level.

I think it'd be experience. Calzaghe has come up against more styles and been in more difficult situations than Pavlik. Calzaghe's resume isn't as great as it should be, but it has improved him as a fighter. I think Calzaghe would adapt to Pavlik's style after the first 4-5 rounds and win on points.

Having said that, I can understand people picking Pavlik. Pavlik has responded top each style he's faced. He figured out Miranda and fought the perfect fight. Maybe he'll figure out Calzaghe too.

I understand what you mean about Calzaghe figuring out his opponents and winning on points in the 2nd half.

However, I think that Pavlik learned and displayed in his rematch against Taylor, who has some bad boxing habits, that he has to be consistent throughout the fight and that would help him win against Calzaghe.

From what I see, Calzaghe is not a KO artist because he tends to throw his punches with his arms and not with his legs. Everyone knows that the power comes from your legs. Pavlik follows through.

Not to mention the fact that Calzaghe usually leaves himself open for upper cuts while he's throwing his flurries. He throws those flurries from his elbows. Once someone like Pavlik takes advantage of that, it's over.

Personally, I'm not impressed with Calzaghe. Pavlik impresses me more when comparing the two.
