Cotto uses what he needs too, He is one of the most well rounded boxers ive ever witnessed in my young life and short time watching boxing, But miguel cotto is truely a phenom, I personaly think He most enjoys body punching and thus when he was up against fighters he could play around with he would choose that style, Now that he is up at a higher level he can no longer just choose how he wants to fight, He now is forced to fight in a certain way, Against a slugger he will box and against a boxer he will box. Its all apart of his amazing repitoire of abilities, boxing, slugging, speed, or whatever style he so chooses, (or rather is chosen for him by his trainers) is what he will do and what he will win with. Quote me on this, WE HAVE NOT SEEN THE BEST OF MIGUEL COTTO!

No you are wrong they are not living legends >comma< you were talking about Cotto being a 'boxer' overnight and i have just proven to you that Miguel Angel Cotto has not become a 'boxer' overnight but has been one from the beginning>full stop<

You asked how cotto became a boxer overnight, i answered your question and you changed the subject by attempting to belittle Miguel's resume.

No, I referred to Cotto's old school fans talking about these previous performances at the top of the thread. #1 that doesn't cut it. #2 this thread is about the popular perception of him now as a Boxer when nobody was talking like that one year ago today. Read the opening post next time.

The opening post is not worth my time, Miguel Cotto is a boxer/puncher and has always been, watch amateur footages of him.

Does anyone have any idea what that would involve? What that would take?

For anyone who knows the slightest bit about actual combat, to say that is a somewhat tall order would be an understatement of epic proportions. Not only does Margarito have very good Boxing abilities himself, he's a hydra, an octopus of long arms coming from every angle known to man in constant non-stop succession. Margarito is an extremely accurate improvisational puncher who can throw from any distance or quarters. His punches follow you around the ring like a fly on ****.

The greatest pure Boxer to ever live, Willie Pep, had a virtually unsolvable puzzle as his nemesis with the hard throwing, volume punching, long limbed Sandy Saddler. Sound familiar? These guys are not easy.

You seem to forget that Margarito has been outboxed before and with guys with less skill than Cotto. Williams outboxed him to a clear decision. Clottey was outboxing Margarito then he broke his hand and he lasted the full twelve rounds with a broken hand. Outboxing Margarito is not this amazing feat that you make it out to be, you don't need the skills of Willie Pep to outbox Margarito you need to be a solid boxer/puncher that can hit him hard enough to keep him off you. And Cotto has more than enough boxing skill and power to outbox Margarito it's been done before and it's going to be done again.

Addy is right, after the Mosley bout people REALIZED (not that it was actually true but I am guessing they never paid attention to it) that he could box.

He developed the reputation virtually overnight. This time one year ago he was known simply as a body destroyer - with even potentially limited skills.

Talk about how all of this came about, and your view on the subject.
your speaking of perception. Cotto is perceived as a pressure fighter who breaks his opponents down but he has been capable of boxing effectively since his days as an amatuer. He just chooses to break guys down Im assuming because he would rather go that route when he can. I think what is being pointed out is that he has options to box effectively when he needs to. I have not seen anyone comment that he applies the trade of pure boxing on even a consistent basis. I remember seeing numerous Cotto fights where the commentators were also talking about his technical skills and boxing ability. I think the fact that he consistently throws straight punches, has a hard jab and intelligent movement and control of distance is what will really win him this fight.
