    Clarification: Cotto The Boxer

Cotto's dedicated fans like to point out that he outBoxed so and so back when.. But the truth is; this current popular view of Cotto as a Boxer extraordinaire is a very new one.

He developed the reputation virtually overnight. This time one year ago he was known simply as a body destroyer - with even potentially limited skills.

Talk about how all of this came about, and your view on the subject.

True, I haven't quite yet caught on the Cotto bandwagon. I'm sorry but I just see too many flaws (probably cause I was there up front at the Mosley fight and I'm thinking this is the birth of his "boxing" skills). But who am I to talk.

IMO Cotto's boxing skills and hand speed have been underrated. Of course now that everyone seems to have noticed, they'll likely be overrated soon. I've seen that happen countless times. I would expect the Margarito fight to answer a lot of questions about where he really is at this point.

false. the same could be said for floyd who is now an amazing inside fighter because of how he fought Ricky Hatton. And I've been looking at threads trying to fight these exteme Cotto fans who are saying Cotto is the second coming of Willie Pep and I'm not finding them. What I am finding are people like myself who say Cotto can box enough to get the job done.

take a look at cotto's background..the guy had an amazing amateur career.

i feel cotto adapt to styles...whenever he feels like boxing he'll do it whenever he wants to brawl he'll do it.

cotto is an intelligent fighter why? because even thou he gets hurt he always looks for a way to win.

torres fight:box him and hurt him to the body
          abdulaev:box him fighting backwards
          judah:extreme pressure.
          mosley:start brawling,finish boxing.
          corleyressure

everytime u saw cotto hurt he always looks for a new plan or a plan b.all of the fights mentioned he struggled in some of rounds but he always adapt.

I THINK U UNDERESTIMATED COTTO ALOT ADDI...the man has skills he knows what to do.u can't like him but respect the man.

It is true it is kinda new it came about around Mosley fight i think. I just think outboxing Margarito is not climbing Mt. Everest. If Antonio can get him out of boxing and start to brawl i think his odds increase quite a bit.

NAPO, none of that adds up to the overblown hype we're getting on this. There is no understimating, just realism. I have eyes, I know this sport quite well. Cotto does a better job of selling his scoring than anyone in the sport - that he is a master at. He's extremely keen and sharp about making it very clear to the judges and the audience that he's landed a punch. Perception and reality aren't things I get confused, ever.
