This is one of the best paragraphs I've ever read here.

To answer the original question, I think part of the evolution of Cotto as this "boxer" was due to his fight with Mosley and HBO's cheering section. Cotto showed a better than usual jab which I definitely noticed, but Lampley and crew made it seem like Mosley couldn't be outjabbed (guess they forgot about the Winky fight)
This praise continued when Mosley stung Cotto in the 9th and Cotto got on his bike while Shane went right hand happy and forgot combo's will do the job so Cotto essentially looked slicker while losing a couple of rounds late.

That's how I think Cotto got the rep.
The one thing that sticks with me about this whole thing. I have never seen Margarito hurt and I've watched him a ton. I have seen Cotto hurt, and I've watched him a ton.

i think part of the evolution of Cotto as a boxer is how he's very good at suddenly boxing when he feels some hard punches and manages to get away from the assault.
More power to him for that. It's made him a winner.

Believe I could take your girlfriend, if you have one. I spend a tremendous amount of time here - because I choose to, because I want to, because I like to. Talking about Boxing is my favorite thing to do in life. Why the **** would I leave the house? I am a recluse, no doubt. You got that right! I'd just rather have people on my **** on an internet forum, than in real life. Going out and flirting with the guys is not what I do anymore, and ****ing a slut takes 20 minutes.

Talk about how all of this came about, and your view on the subject.

            And redundant ..

My opinion of Cotto being a boxer didn't happen overnight, it was from when I saw him in one of his earlier fights and I saw that he was a good solid boxer with good counterpunching skills.

Granted, he isn't a great boxer but his boxing skills are better than some give him credit for.

                  Addison good thread.

IMO Cotto looks very uncomfortable when he trying to box. If you really look at him all he is doing is staying in constant motion trying to avoid any exchanges while in that mode. That is not his style and what he most comfortable doing. I think he does it to give himself a little rest and regroup. I am not saying Cotto won't win but I am saying Cotto won't win trying to box for 12 rounds. Cotto's boxing skill is just not that good to do that.

For the last couple of Cotto fights I've seen the same posters grasp and analyze and attempt to discredit the man. It's almost as if you're preparing yourselves for the "I told you so!" line if Cotto ever loses.

I don't think so. Cotto was met with virtually no opposition whatsoever against Judah after the low blows, and clearly, easily, could have lost the fight if Judah was the slightest bit consistently offensive. Call it luck, call it cheating - but don't call it skill. Judah let him off the hook completely. It was extremely apparent they were in entirely different leagues in terms of skill.

Shane Mosley nearly steamrolled Cotto in the late rounds, put on a godawful performance in the mid rounds - and still managed to lose a decision so narrow more than half the media scored it in his favor. And this was an absolutely **** version of Mosley.. Something like the version that fought Fernando "Now In The Junkheap At 30 Years Old Because He Was So Shot" Vargas the first time. Mosley was ****ing horrible during entire stretches against Cotto. HORRIBLE. And he still managed to stay on equal terms.

Let's be clear about this; Cotto is going to lose to Margarito and lose BIG.
