At the time? No one, clearly.
All-time? There were quite a few great fighters who passed through 130 at one point.
Julio Cesar Chavez
Kid Chocolate
Flash Elorde
Alexis Arguello
Wilfredo Gomez
Whether they could beat him is a question for someone else. I don't think I've seen any of them fight at 130, so I am completely out of my league when it comes to answering questions of all-time greatness.Comment

yeah i could say the same about roy and 168.... but i think it helps both of their resumes to show they can move up and still ownI'll tell you...
I'm watching Mayweather-Corrales (yes I know it's at 130, not 135) and Floyd looks just absolutely fantastic. Seriously, he looks almost perfect. Great jab, excellent combinations, fantastic elusivity, he had it all.
Although he struggled with Castillo at 135, he did well in his other two fights. I wish he would have stayed down there and fought Casamayor, Freitas, Lazcano, etc.
There would be no talk about ducking whoever I don't think. I think Floyd has a right to not want to fight Cotto, probably because Cotto is a giant next to him, but Floyd really has put himself in that boat by entering into 147. If you are going to claim the lineal championship in a division, you are going to be expected to fight the best in that division.
135 didn't even really fall off when most of the good fighters previously mentioned left. We now have Nate Campbell, Juan Diaz, Julio Diaz, Kid Diamond, etc.
I don't know, what do you all think about this? How cool would it have been if Floyd had stayed at 130 until the Chavez fight (when he said he couldn't make that limit anymore), and then never have left 135?Comment

Mayweather is a 135/140 fighter.
I agree. And that is why I discount any of the reasons/excuses that some Hatton supporters make: 'Ricky is not a welterweight'. Well, neither is Floyd.
In recent years, Mayweather has been coming into the ring at 146-148. That is smaller than most junior welterweights have been fighting.
At 135, Floyd was a threat with every aspect of his game - including his punching power. He chose to move up to 140 for the Gatti PPV money. And then to 147 for the obvious money up there.
No excuses for Floyd, though. He wanted to chase the paper, and that is the price he pays. He has to fight guys 10-20 pounds bigger than him.Comment

I don't think it woulda been very exciting, he'd have dominated everyone completely, at least moving up theres always the risk of him getting checked, he has more to overcome (lets face it, pound-for-pound he's in a league by himself) and the higher he climbs the more risk there is of plummeting. I think against Gatti he looked as good as against Corrales, but against speedsters like Judah (underrated) its difficult to look great if you don't have that big equaliser, I wasn't at all surprised that Floyd had some difficulty early in that fight.Comment
