Floyd Jr. should have never left 135...

    I'll tell you...

I'm watching Mayweather-Corrales (yes I know it's at 130, not 135) and Floyd looks just absolutely fantastic. Seriously, he looks almost perfect. Great jab, excellent combinations, fantastic elusivity, he had it all.

Although he struggled with Castillo at 135, he did well in his other two fights. I wish he would have stayed down there and fought Casamayor, Freitas, Lazcano, etc.

There would be no talk about ducking whoever I don't think. I think Floyd has a right to not want to fight Cotto, probably because Cotto is a giant next to him, but Floyd really has put himself in that boat by entering into 147. If you are going to claim the lineal championship in a division, you are going to be expected to fight the best in that division.

135 didn't even really fall off when most of the good fighters previously mentioned left. We now have Nate Campbell, Juan Diaz, Julio Diaz, Kid Diamond, etc.

I don't know, what do you all think about this? How cool would it have been if Floyd had stayed at 130 until the Chavez fight (when he said he couldn't make that limit anymore), and then never have left 135?

In a way I've always wished he'd have stayed at either 135 or 140. I don't think there's any doubt that he would have been a bigger puncher at the lower weights and that he wouldn't be dogged by questions concerning his level of comp even 3 weight divisions above his prime weight.

That said, Floyd knew the path to superstardom was through Oscar and he got there. If he'd stayed at 135 or 140 he'd never have become the superstar that he is. He'd face less criticism, but he'd be like Hopkins or Winky only undefeated.

Well PBF would have struggled to make the weight, As he was growing older his body would have outgrown 135...I know he could have done the Joe Calzaghe/B-Hop thing and stayed in one weight and defend his titles like 30 times but you also have to realise that he was obsess in getting a fight with Dela hoya so he knew he had to move up in weight to get the fight.

Hopkins was considered P4P #1 at one point... I doubt anyone would have thought less of Floyd legacy wise for staying at 135. Lightweight has been packed with good fighters for quite a while. When one batch of good fighters leave, another batch comes in.

He might have had to end up moving up to 140. I don't know though. He stayed at 130 for 27 fights. The only reason he has gotten big is because he has tried to bulk up some in order to be more competitive at these higher weights. I guess it is speculative to try to figure out if he could have stayed at 135.

He could've been great at 135 or even 140, he looked his best at that weight, defensively and offensively. His power was better, he was just as quick, if not quicker there.

But he wanted the big money fights, specifically a fight with DLH, so he moved up.

            God that is brutal...

Mayweather landed more punches than Corrales threw.

            That is shocking.

Thats because Mayweather at 135 was shocking mate, The speed level was way too different to any other fighter in his division at that time..He wasnt gun-shy at all he was great offensively and defensively but he just knew the money wasnt at those weight...I remember he try to fight Naz just because Naz was the only fighter commanding the big money fights in the lower weights at that time.

Fighters move up in weight for 5 reasons.

                  1.Money

                  2.Champion Belt collecting

                  3.Money

                  4.Dominance

5.Inability to maintain weight due to natural increases.

Yeah, I've seen all of his fights, but apparently I forgot the majority of the fight, because I don't remember it being so one-sided. I guess I forgot because it wasn't overly brutal towards Corrales. He didn't exactly get battered.

He did call out Prince Naseem after the fight, in which Merchant said, "Prince Naseem isn't going to fight you after seeing this. It ain't going to happen."
